I sat down at McDonald's and had their McWifi McHotSpot McHappy McMeal and my Windows 7 machine asked me what zone I'd like. Because there wasn't a 'McHappy' zone, I settled on 'Public'

I ran Ultra as if it was the first time on the computer. UAC said, are you sure? I said yes...
I filled out the reg form and then the Windows Firewall said 'Allow?' I did
Then ZUpdater launched and again Windows Firewall said 'Allow?' I did...

Then the newly downloaded Ultra reappeared and UAC said, 'you must be friggin' crazy! You HAVEN'T disabled UAC yet?" And I did.

LOL... i found out that Ultra plays quite nicely with Windows 7, and UAC really doesn't mind it apart from the initial, 'is this program ok?' question.

What made my ciomputer ask ALL the time was I had a couple of manifest files. Once deleted, Ultra ran quite nicely without needing to disable UAC

I think you know why I think it's important to upload a registration. It tests upload ability and I get to know how many people have been trying out the software.

Although, the registration is still fake-able... users can put in bogus information.. I can still get a head count. For example... I know that over 900 unique users (that still might be a few people re-registering from different locations/IP addresses) and yet only about 30 people who are regularily uploading a seriesid text... to me that means... that there have been a lot of people who were interested but for some reason or another, gave up...

So I'm trying to improve the experience. I'm going to rewrite some of the wiki, and add some setup checking to be sure it's all working correctly so that a new user can set it and forget it...

And then when I get brave, I'll be creating a version that will work properly with nPVR...

I can tell you how to circumvent the registration (and some people have already found out I guess -- good for them) but I don't want to go public with it. If you still can't get your firewall dropped, I'll PM you a file...

But I would really like you to try and get a hole punched in the firewall if you can.

I ran a couple of tests from home testing a new user experience. Other than Windows Firewall popping up for ZUpdater and UltraXMLTV_Enhancer all seem to work fine.

To me the setup seems to be start forward and simple enough for most people (possible because I've gone through it a couple of times). I hope that the registration is not scaring people away. I can fully understand why you want people to register the software. It give you an idea of how many people have tried and tested the software and how many people continue to use the software. In a perfect world, it would be nice if people didn't like the software would let you know why. It would give you ideas on how to improve the product/experience.

What about starting a new thread asking what people like/dislike about UltraXMLTV_Enhancer or has something like this been done already?

quick question, how do i get star ratings inside the description?
i thought i had it set right but now i get .([TAG]*) inside every show instead of the star rating on only movies..

Hey pBS... I updated the Beta to include the star rating the way you'd like.... Basically if there's a star rating in the XMLTV, it will be displayed (as in we're trusting the xmltv file - only movies have star ratings)

You can now see it display in the description field, placed where you want, in the movie title, or the 'Star Rating' filed... and wrapped with whatever modifier you like.. ( spaces, stars, text, quotes, brackets...)

Just remember that in all tags, you must have '[TAG]' within the string... and then anything you want surrounding it... I do have some validation there... but who knows... :-)

Let me know if you're satisfied, and I'll move it into 'Stable' release...
