I use McAfee Site Advisor in Firefox and noticed today that it is showing gbpvr.com as a RED site. When you click on it, it takes you to their website: http://www.siteadvisor.com/sites/gbpvr.c...er=6.1.0.0

It says: McAfee TrustedSource web reputation analysis found potential security risks with this site. Use with extreme caution.

Nothing on that page says it is bad. Linked to all green sites and no issues with the downloads.

That is a bit odd, they say the site is horribly risky, yet all the detail says the site is fine. I guess that's a consequence of automated analysis tools.

I went ahead and posted a user comment there, for whatever good it might do.

I've read from time to time that automatic mailings from the forums have caused gbpvr.com to be blacklisted by some ISP's. Given that is McAfee don't explain how these ratings are determined, it probably doesn't take much more than this.

ah, the whole netblock on which gbpvr.com is hosted is blacklisted several places. The forum couldn't send me mail if it wanted to right now, as my server uses one of those lists. The bad listings have nothing to do with gbpvr.com, but there are some bad characters hanging around in the same IP neighborhood. Too bad paypal stole all sub's money, it might be a good time to find new hosting.

edit: yep, just tested it - I tried having the forum e-mail me a link to a thread, and it didn't come in; I could log in to my server and check my SMTP log, but I already know what it says. So if any of you suddenly aren't getting e-mail notifications about threads you've subscribed to, this is why. gbpvr.com lives in a seedy neighborhood of the internet.

Interesting, McAfee now lists gbpvr.com as ok with a green check; however, the site's IP address is now blacklisted on a fourth RBL. I was thinking McAfee was using the blacklistings to help determine a reputation score, but the blacklist situation is worse if anything yet the McAfee rating is much better.

spamhaus has been blacklisting gbpvr.com off and on over the last couple of years, due to other hosts in the same ip range. The project cant afford similar hosting elsewhere (dedicated linux server). That said, due to paypal grrr, it cant even afford the current hosting...
