Should I be looking at GBPVR documentation for creating my own skin, or is there some NPVR documentation somewhere?

Nothing has been compiled for NPVR, which is similar, but different from GBPVR. If you find a similar skin to what you are trying to accomplish, start with that and post some questions. I am not as up to speed on NPVR skinning since I am "semi-retired", but I am sure my friends here will help out.

I'm new to XML, but have been writing HTML and CSS for years with a little PHP. I did some reading online, and I guess most all tags and properties are specific to the application if I'm not mistaken. Does everyone here just begin writing their skins by looking at other code and figuring out what does what? I'm good at doing that, but just wanted to make sure I wasn't wasting my time if there was something to read that explains most stuff. It looks to me like some of the questions I had are answered in the gbpvr documentation.

It is always a good idea to look at the 'blue' skin xml files for a reference, since they will be the most current. The size and position values are percentages of total screen size (except fonts). Tags usually are plugin specific, and you cannot invoke displays of items that a particular plugin may not support. If you look at the skinning tutorials I put up for the GBPVR CommunitySkin, you may get the "flow", just nomenclature is different.

@Fatman_do

Thanks. I'll check them out.

Do you know if back.jpg is hardcoded in NPVR?

and dear dspdrew, just as an aside, any notes, helpful hints etc you may take along the way could be used for the start in doing exactly what you asked about at the start of your thread in 'documentation'. All needed on the new NPVR wiki Wink

@steeb I wouldn't mind helping out once I have this figured out.. I write how-tos all the time.

I have a few questions still after reading through the tutorials.

1. What's with the 8 number hex colors? (for example: #4000040a)

2. Where is the code for the "back" icon (..) for icon view?

Dear dspdrew,

being a humble soul of small brain power I cannot answer these things for you but am sure pretty soon that one with knowledge of these things will answer you very soon.

I just do wiki documentation things BUT I would love it if you kept a note (particularly given that you "write how-tos" anyway) of the important elements of this process.

Just checking where you have placed this thread.....

Yes as I thought, I would have thought questions such as your last ones were best placed in the developers thread:

http://forums.gbpvr.com//forumdisplay.php?9-Developers

Some may disagree, transition from GB-PVR to NPVR utilising same forum is not easy Big Grin

Hairy is the man to answer on those hex colors. I believe they are an alpha value. I cannot speak to NPVR, as I haven't updated yet, but in gbpvr, there was no code for the top level folder "back" icon. This was hard coded.
