What is the deal with npvr? Is it going to be a commercial app? It has the smell of one a bit. Once it developed more fully I mean. I would wait to see where it goes, but I was wondering what is going on behind the scenes? Seems like more people are involved from over the world. Is there some sort of commercial organization involved somewhere for gbpvr or npvr in some capacity? I am reminded of the takeover of Meedio into "Yahoo! Go4TV" which would just completely kill it for me if something similar happened to npvr. Apart I'm just really curious. We need some sort of press release from sub. Motivations, direction, etc.

Sub explained it here http://forums.gbpvr.com//showthread.php?...sprune=365

As for commercial intentions I've never inferred that from any of sub's posts. Besides he said Schedules Direct support will be coming back and that implicitly means npvr will not be commercial.

Nothing's going on behind the scenes. I have no plans to take it commerical. In fact, I have no plans what so ever Big Grin (about anything). I think you're confusing this project with something more organised Smile

Its still just me doing the development here NZ. There are certainly users all around the world though, and among them are great members of that community creating plugins and skins.

There is no one providing any funding for npvr (or involved in any other capacity). I have a day job, and family, which consume the bulk of my spare time, but I work on npvr as my hobby in the time left over.

That said, if someone wants to come and offer me lots of money though... Big Grin

Just to make it clear: I am using gb-pvr since i registered myself on this website. Ok, i had many problems with gb-pvr (but not much as with other solutions, especially the crap from the linux faction...) but sub invested all the time(!) a lot of time. GB-PVR grew up and... reaches the limit. And now comes up nPVR with a new ground. Open for new, still a few buggy things...

BUT! I will NEVER USE Windows Media Center or something else (i like Microsoft, it's no Anti-MS thing). I will stay at nPVR as long sub invests so much love and time into this project. And yes, i would pay for nPVR too. I would pay the same amount i were willing to pay for PowerDVD, Windows or any other software, which me uses so much and often like nPVR. Because of sub, Hercules/Xena and Kiwis Big Grin i just love New Zealand. XD

Ah ok. It seems like the program is gaining a lot of momentum (just when I thought it had died). I've seen screenshots of that Wave skin which looks fantastic btw. Just what this project needs. Compare it to XBMC default skin which is just ghastly lol.

I'm being very nosy here I know, but what is meant by this? What are the details behind it?

An complete overhaul is usually good. A come-back-better-than-ever-edition. A few Ideas I've had...
- "Next PVR" is a pretty weak name. Just nPVR is waaay better that seems to be what everyone is calling it too.
- MediaPortal got so big and unstable that they are going to abandon it so they can work on version 2. The everything is a plugin design seems to be the solution. That is exactly what Foobar2000 is. If you are not familiar with it, it's the best music player which is basic, barebones and fast, but at the same time infinitely customizable, powerful and feature laden. Even the most basic core features are plugins and you could write plugins to do anything you want. I just think it's a great ideal to copy.

(I might think of something else later)

Yes, i agree. The development of plugins and skins ist not very active. I think, most of developer just wait for a final version of nPVR before developing anything, because there could be a lot of changes. I am working on a skin too, but i will finish it if nPVR is final. In the past i worked on my skin for gb-pvr. But gb-pvr received nonstop changes, especially to skin support which i couldn't understand from one point any more, so i stopped my skin for gb-pvr. Afraid of "new changes in a new version" of gb-pvr. *buck*

I just think, that a few other people are thinking same like me and wait...

If you have wishes or ideas for nPVR, than do not hesistate to write them down in the "wishlist" forum. Smile I am sure that sub, or any other of the engaged developers will take a look on your ideas.
