McBainUK Wrote:Or the homepage for gbpvr.com could just be the home page for the wiki? The problem with an HTML homepage is that only sub can edit it, his time is better spent on developing nPVR, and spending with family... Smile

Yes absolutely concur about the editing, and should not be something else that Sub should have to deal with. I was thinking with the correct links and info it could be static, i.e. a 'one off' once created it should not need to be edited. Or in fact if it was a wordpress site then it could be edited by others? I was just trying to think my way around the current wiki homepage which is slightly restricted in potential layout.......

Hmmm just thoughts Big Grin

I agree that the layout of the wordpress site would be work better than the existing gbpvr.com. Whilst the gbpvr website has great screenshot images, the only real purpose it serves is to provide 3 links (which on my 16:10 laptop screen, I have to scroll down to find).

I think it would be good if there were:

links at the top to wiki, forum, documentation, donate, download, about.
A description of the product (that avoids using subjective adjectives such as "mature, robust, full-featured ")
News items such as info on new plugins, skins, updates, patches, new hardware releases (such as tuners).
Links to the top ten viewed forum postings in the last week?

Obviously, someone would have to write and maintain all of this ...

Thank you gEd, I word my posts very badly, I couldn't have said what I was trying to say apart from exactly quoting you, which is exactly along the lines of what I was thinking Big Grin

I waited 2 days to reply to this just to see if anyone bit! No bites Big Grin I think you were thinking along the same lines as me here?

AFAIK any RSS feed would be possible from vbulletin v4? Would require some input server side from Sub, once set up standalone pretty much. All depends where Sub is going with NPVR and what he decides, I guess. A name for NPVR would be a good start?

Are there not still?

etc, etc, I'm now showing feeds for every top level forum topic/thread. Now I'm sure that wasn't happening before

IMHO this is great work, looks much better to have something like this as a 'landing page' for NPVR.

Good stuff!

It's late in UK, and I am either far too young, or too old to be posting, but in case I am in my prime.

I suggest:

vBulletin brilliant as the forum driver (as is)
pmwiki brilliant as the documentation manager (as is)
wordpress to run the main NPVR site

hey I'm old and you can all laugh at me Big Grin

I often laugh at myself Smile
