I have XP. I have SAF installed and EVR is working--except in saved recordings, EVR lags a little bit. So EVR works just fine in Live TV, but not in playing back I'm assuming there is a way to fix that? I hope... Smile Thoughts anyone?

Hi.
You should not mix DxVA 2.0 EVR renderer (vista/Win7) with DxVA 1.0 OS (WinXP).
For example you wont be able to use DxVA for h.264/AVC.

Basically what hoborg is saying is. EVR under XP will not allow for DxVA (hardware accellerated video, where the video card does the work not the processor) and VRM9 does allow hardware acceleration under XP which can greatly improve video performance depending on graphics card. This is helpful when you have a less powerful processor and a high powered video card, ie the atom processor and ion graphics card combination. in this case DxVA is needed for any kind of smooth playback. It will be clear you have issues if your playback is stuttery

Although i am not sure this is the route of your problem as you do get smooth playback in certain areas, but i would recommend that you switch to VRM9 rendere in xp and try a DxVA compatible decoder to see if it helps.

Alternatively you can try other decoders to see if they change performace
HTPC Server: 2.3gh AMD Quad 9600, 4GB ram, 320gb HDD, 1TB HDD, and 750GB External USB HDD, NVIDIA GeForce 8600gt, Win 7 (32bit), (2x) HVR2250 using QAM

Client: AM2 5600, biostar 790GX (onbard HD3300), 4gb memory, Vista, LM remote mapping app, Acer Revo R3610 (Atom N330) Win 7, 785G (HD 4200), Win 7, 4gb ram

Thanks imagn... i'll stick to VMR9... but i'm still at a loss why EVR would work perfectly fine for live tv but not for saved recordings... seems to me that live tv would be harder to render than saved recordings
