I have been experiencing crashes lately on both my A-100 and A-110. Mostly it seems to happen when restarting a recording that just finished (sometimes comskip cuts off the last show bit so I go back to watch it) but I think it also happens when just starting any random recording (the family reports). What happens is - start watching a recording, remote is unresponsive, then after about 10 seconds, black screen which requires power cycling to reboot the PCH. This doesn't happen all the time, and I can't always reproduce it, but it has happened enough now to affect WAF and be a pia.

Attached are logs which show me watching SNL, it ends, I replay it, and PCH crashes. Let me know if any more information would be helpful for diagnosis.

Thanks
What, me worry?

Roy that problems seems like exactly the same one that BrettB has been experiencing and I don't have a cause yet. Next time it happens if possible telnet to the PCH and type

ls /tmp

I want to know if dumpts.txt or ts.ts are in that folder.

I do see you have the bad habit of leaving the PCH running all night. That is not recommended if you are using HDMI for several reasons or if you let your PC sleep. NPVR doesn't do a good job of disconnecting, it looks like your PC went to sleep.

I also saw an NRecord error that you might want to get sub to look into

Code:
2011-01-30 03:10:00.456    [ERROR][8]    Unexpected error in UpdateRecurringRecording(): System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.

After playing with it now to try to find a cause, I think it is when the recording ends with a commercial block, then replay that recording it crashes. I was able to reproduce that scenario crash with that SNL recording, and another recording that had a commercial block at the end. I modified the comskip edl file to have a little bit of show block at the end, and it no longer crashed.

If I play a different recording after the one with commercial block at the end, it does not crash, then play the same one with commercial again and it does not crash.

Neither of my PCH are hdmi, and I don't think the PC sleeps at all anymore, but I know I should turn them off.

I'll try to figure out telnet to get that info for you.

Thanks

Fantastic, I will see if Brett has the same issue, I have not seen this issue but it is possible that last comskip is putting mvmcx2 into a bad state. Thanks, I don't use comskip and I have never had a similar problem.

Ok, then turning of the PCH isn't a big deal on analog Something did cause both your MVP servers to reset yesterday morning. though and to me this looked like a PC waking up given the gap in time

Code:

Thank you too, I know have something to go on.

On thing I don't understand is you shut down the Recording service yesterday but you were still running an MVP Server and a web server without the recording service today. I can't explain this at all.

After I figured out I have to enable telnet in Windows 7, attached is what I get with telnet - is that what you are looking for? I see dumpts.txt but not ts.ts.

That's what I want and it looks fine now, but is that after a re-boot?

I run 2 MVP servers. I was playing with things yesterday, and do remember restarting the recording service at one point, when the A-100 would not connect. Why do you say the recording service is not running today? I have several recordings in process right now.

The last line in NRecord.log is from yesterday

No, the pch is still sitting at black screen. But the new mvp.log (attached) gets created immediately.

That's odd with NRecord stopped. Are you running this update http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...post402430 ? If not could you try it and see if you can duplicate that comskip problem.
