Multiple audio tracks and embedded subtitles

Several DVB channels provides me with multiple audio streams and embedded subtitles in my ts recording files. How do I get to choose what audio track to use and subtitle to display.

I am mostly playing things on the PCHs and I have been able to switch audio track using the audio key on the PCH remote but no sign of subtitles.

In GBPVR I remember an option to extract the subtitle to a srt file but i cannot find that setting in NPVR? The only thing related is the config setting subtitle which I have set to swe.

There is no subtitle support on the PCH. I'm guessing it has a key to switch audio streams, but I'm not sure what key it is. I'm sure someone will pipe and let you know soon.

Is there any way to extract the subtitles from a ts file? any external app you know about that I could have as a post processing step.

The PCH display srt files just fine.

You might be able to use a thirds party utility like ProjectX. I've never used it myself, but I've seen other mention it in the past.

GBPVR had some very basic ability to extract teletext subtitles to srt files, but it always worked pretty badly, and couldnt cope with DVB-Subtitles, which are far more widely used.

First, hat's off to all of you who have to watch sub-titles on a regular basis, I am watching "The Girl With..." movies right now and my wife and I are taking twice as long watching as normal, we rewind often to find out what was said. White-on-white is really awful, and we're glad Lisbeth wears black.

When sub added srt support to NextPVR, he actually did provide basic support to the NMT too. It isn't optimized and it really should have a means of using a time +/- offset like GBPVR but you can see for yourself by turning them on with the NMT's remote naturally enough on the Subtitle key. I don't think I have fully enabled all the subtitle potential of the Sigma chip in the NMT yet For example on NTSC monitors when you turn Closed Captioning on the CC's do appear, they are done by hardware. Based on some comments I have read in the SDK, there might be similar hardware decoding of teletext subtitles, but I do need some samples to explore this further

Native NMT player support for subtitles is reasonable, but it don't support embedded mpeg-ts subtitles or PGS streams. However native player support called from mvpmcx2 is hindered because the shortname for the video files and subtitle files, without extensions, don't necessarily match, so you need to use the native UI to play them.

Finally Reddwarf and I had a discussion about ProjectX and also older versions of VLC for burning subtitles into the mpeg files on these forums if you want search it out.

I never got anywhere with VLC and subtitles, but I can say that ProjectX works great for extracting teletext subtitles from .ts files. It also extracts dvb-subtitles to .sup and .idx files, but I haven't found an application yet that can ocr' them to .srt.

I don't think it is a bug in npvr, I seem to remember reading that DVB-subtitle format does not specify a duration for subtitles, but this could be fixed if Sub implemented a MaxSubtitleDuration parameter, of let's say 8 seconds.

I am not sure a fixed value will be good, wouldn't that depend of the amount of text? Anyway, the way VLC has solved this works just fine for me.

Well ofcource the previous subtitle will disappare if a new subtitle emerges, only if no new subtitle comes up it will stay MaxSubtitleDuration on the screen, thus avoiding it to be there forever.

It's funny thou, you suggesting we'r born with a subtitle reader . I'v noticed with myself, and asked my wife too; we don't actually read the subtitle lines, just a glance at the subtitle tells us immidiately what it says. I think it's a function of years of training reading subtitles.

My first language is English, but living in Norway for 35 odd years, subtitles are hardcoded into my brain! I find myself reading instead of listing!
Hate it when the subs show the puch line just before the person speaks. Me, I'm glad subs are missing!

As for default audio stream. Hope something turns up in a future release. My kids don't speak Finnish and don't like Swedish or Danish. A drop down/tickbox in the cannel mapping would be nice.
Also if one records one of these channels, the file doesn't always work if you change the audio stream (lock up) I will look into this a bit later and produce some logs.
