Hi,

First of all, sorry for asking so many questions lately, and thanks for all the help.

I have a 16:9 display running at 1024x768. TV Shape is set to 16:9.

The UI takes up the whole screen, but I'm finding that all video is being incorrectly letterboxed. With AR set to auto, 16:9 content is being shown in 2.35:1, and 2.35:1 content is squashed down by a similar proportion.

I've tried different renderers and decoders and nothing seems to make any difference.

Any idea what might be going wrong?

Reproduce the problem and post the npvr.log and I'll see if anything stands out.

Have you tried setting your screen resolution to something that is 16:9? 1024x768 is 4:3.

I'm not using NPVR yet, but from my gbpvr experience: The tv shape setting is relevant for the UI mostly (my guess).

So when using a 4:3 resolution, the video renderer tries to adapt the video stream to something that looks natural when viewed at 4:3.

I'm almost certain that if you set it to a widescreen resolution your problem will be solved.

I used GBPVR for several years with 16:9 and 1024x768, and the aspect ratio was correct.

Due to my setup with a tv and a projector connected to the same output, 1024x768 is really my only option.

NPVR should scale the video to fit the resolution and aspect ratio, shouldn't it Sub?

Log attached.

Unfortunately not, and I did spend some time reading through threads regarding AR problems before I posted.

If I cycle back to auto it's incorrectly letterboxed again, so I have to use fill for all 16:9 content, and can only view 2.35:1 content with correct AR by using a custom aspect ratio I've added myself to config.xml.

Is no-one else having this problem?

I don't think there's anything unusual about my setup, it was a fresh install of Win 7 x64 a couple of weeks ago, and I'm using EVR and the MS decoder with an ATI HD3800.

Unfortunately this isn't making any difference.

Looking at my logs I see the following when starting to play a 16:9 channel with AR set to auto:

2011-03-14 10:11:59.256 [DEBUG][1] Source Aspect Ratio: 16x9
2011-03-14 10:11:59.256 [DEBUG][1] Setting display rect: 0.000000,0.125000,1.000000,0.875000

Which looks like it's setting the display to letterbox for a 4:3 display as shown in config.xml, but I can also see that TV shape is "<TVShape>16:9</TVShape>" - so it's correctly set to 16:9.

The aspect ratio mode being used doesn't exist in the <AspectRatioModes shape="16:9"> section, so how come it's getting used?

Can you zip and attach your config.xml?

There it is.

The only change I've made manually is to the 'remove letterbox' mode in the 16:9 section, which I'm using for 2.35:1 content.
