I would love to see a "Record All New Episodes" feature that would allow you to record all of the non-repeat episodes of a show for the season, similiar to that seen in other pvr apps like mce or Beyond TV. [Image: biggrin.gif]

you can do this two ways.

1. Use CDK Scheduler.
2. Use rectracker.

Rectracker if you set it up with postprocess.bat it will record every show that is successfully recorded into a database, you can use xrecord to manage the list.

RecTracker has a purge that you can put in the after epg update batch that will purge the watched shows from the pending list.

I'd like to see this in the native scheduler too. It would make for a nice feature in the basic software.

the reason why sub hasnt done this in recordings etc, is that xmltv doesnt provide information about whether a show is a new episode or not. the great thing about gbpvr is that it can work perfect with xmltv, and doesnt lose any functionality. whereas with beyondtv and sage, its a pain to get them to work with xmltv and you lose a lot of functionality. those products are catered for america, gbpvr is more international, but with plugins you can get this functionality back, so err if you want it, just use a plugin.

Plugins are great.....but dynamically adaptable native interfaces are easier to use, configure and maintain.

Providing functionality based on EPG selection is a good example of something that should have features dynamically available or not available based on your selection.

Just my humble opinion... [Image: smile.gif]

reven,

One easy way to do it is the way I do it with rectracker. After every recording in postprocessing.bat it stores the shows information (Title + description + subtitle + unique id) in the database.

When a new show is scheduled it would just check against that database to see if it has already been recorded. It would not really be new episodes but onces that have never been recorded with gbpvr.

I was looking through the xmltv stuff the other day and while it looks like it doesn't directly say if an episode is new, it does show the original air date. Seems pretty easy to compare the two to find out if an episode is new. Is there some reason why this wouldn't work?

Code:
<programme start="20050327010100 -0500" stop="200503270100 -0500" channel="I11420.labs.zap2it.com">
  <title lang="en">Access Hollywood</title>
  <date>20050326</date>
  <category lang="en">Talk</category>
  <category lang="en">Entertainment</category>
  <category lang="en">Series</category>
  <episode-num system="dd_progid">EP188707.2073</episode-num>
  <episode-num system="onscreen">W446</episode-num>
  <subtitles type="teletext" />
  <rating system="VCHIP">
    <value>TV-PG</value>
  </rating>
</programme>

It looks to me like the date field is the original air date of the show. So it should be easy to figure out which shows are repeats, right?

it doesnt always say the original airdate. most xmltv sources wont give this information. the only things that are constant throughout all xmltv sources is the title and the start time, thats it (stop times isnt always there either). subtitles are only in a few sources, and the rest hardly ever appear.

of course, the only real place where they play repeats of the same show at the same time is USA (well to my knowledge) since they have those annoying breaks every few weeks (whats the deal with those?), the rest of the world we just play the episodes all in a row, perhaps a break here or there, but never play a repeat at the same time. so this could be handled by zap2it.

I bet most US xmltv sources do include the date tag, so that would work very well. If there was a 'new episode' guide option, it would well for those of us in the states who would use it, and as you said, most other places wouldn't really need it.
