N-PVR was running fine until I had to Re-install DotNet as a result of a problem with the new version of ATI-Catalyst 11-3 which I need to support my new configuration. I had to update to the latest DotNet and now I get this error. I tried a complete uninstall/reinstall of NPVR to no avail. The recent fixes inluded as well.

As soon as I start NextPVR.exe, it crashes. This happens with both 2.0.3 and the previous version.

I attached a copy of the details from Windows; XP-Pro SP3 by the way.

What else can I try?

Thanks,

Bernie.

PS: Just went back to GBPVR and it works fine, if that's any indication......

Did you un-install previous versions of the .NET Framework before updating to the latest version?

If so, you don't need to do this as the .NET Framework isn't cumulative. In other words, v3 (for example) doesn't 'replace' v2 and any app which targets v2 will have problems if you install v3 but remove v2 at the same time.

Just a thought although the fact gbpvr is working fine suggests this may not be the case.

Have you installed all the latest .NET 2 updates as its possible you are running a mixture of incompatible original and latest .NET2 files. It may even be worth trying to uninstall .NET but that may not work depending on what software is using it. I had problems with NPVR crashing especially the client until all updates were installed. Automatic Windows Update would take several days to find then so I now do a manual Update which finds the updates immediatly. However it cannot install all in one go so needs a second "update" to get the latest version.

I'm not a big fan of windows updates; I don't like to introduce new problems, so I update only if there is a good reason. So, today I did it and it went OK but didn't fix the problem. The error is still identical. There were 3 DotNet updates, so I had hopes that it might actually do the trick. Too bad...

I'm thinking of uninstalling and removing all references to nPVR. Does anyone know of a good cleanup tool?

Also, I use Hauppauge HVR1600 and HDPVR. They are defined somewhere so removing them might have some effect.

Any thoughts?

I looked at my setup and I have 7 .NET updates installed plus another installed last week. My client would crash every few minutes until the 7 updates were installed. They have to be installed in a particular order and Windows Update I seem to remember installs them in two separate sessions.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I thought I'd totally cleanout DotNet which I did with several reboots (2 for v4.0) and a utility which does v1 to v3.5 in one reboot.

Then, I did the reinstalls:
- v1.1
- V1.1 SP1 (Reboot)
- V2.0.50727
- v2.2.30729 SP2 (Reboot)
- v3.0
- v3.5 a 253 Mb download from Microsoft

At that point everything else worked fine except it did nothing for the error on nPVR, still the same!

What now? Well, I couldn't believe I was alone with this problem. So, I looked for a way to clear nPVR from my system, my theory being I had some definition from my previous installation. So, I did a REVO-UNINSTALL at the maximum level in safemode. I doublechecked with my search utility and I could not find any traces. And Last, I did a Ccleaner, CleanDisk, Registry Cleaner, Registry Mechanic scans. Reboot...

Voila! That did it. I suspect that some registry values and/or possibly, the c:\user folder because I had to recreate it during the nPVR install.

Another one for the history books....!!
