I wondered if you do something like sell a star that could be put by the users name if they so desired or something like that.

They froze two lots of money. The first I got back after 180 days. I'm hoping to get the rest back after its 180 days are up too.

Sub, really, this is not a bad idea!
You like nPVR? Then please help pay the bills, and keep the project alive!

No such a daft idea. I subscribe to a motorbike forum and they "supply stickers" to subscribing members. Although I'm not sure anyone has received them!

I think the signed photo might put people off though Wink

Maybe a signed screenshot? I wonder if MS has started suing people for taking those yet. Rolleyes

I've heard increasing complaints about paypal since ebay took them. Paralleling increasing complaints about ebay's treatment of sellers. I really like paypal's ubiquity, but I'm not thrilled about them screwing companies/people I like.

As much as I hate to say it, I'm probably going to give PayPal another go.

I've tried talking to Paymate about selling something physical like stickers or a CD with my software, but they just want me to go away and leave them alone now Big Grin.

I looked into other payment services, but alot of them have down sides, or fees that are way too high, etc.

To keep on the right side of PayPal though, I think I'm going to have to stay away from the previous "send me some amount of your choosing, and I'll send you nothing in return" model. It seems like payment providers dont like this model. I think I'm going to have to sell you something. ie, you buy one or more copies/licenses for some software utility from me or something similar.

Nice, well sort of Big Grin Nice that you have found someone who can actually deal with it. But I guess not nice given it was Paypal that caused the issue in the 1st place...

So I guess the big question is:

what is it you will be selling Wink

I dont know - I'm open to suggestions. Preferrably not something that'll take a me a long time to create. Doesnt have to be TV related.

I suggest again the autographed NPVR cd. Doesn't even need to be your real autograph, we all enjoy the newbs wondering what your real name is (though it doesn't seem to happen as much any more - back when I joined it seemed to be a recurring topic). Just burn a CD with the current NPVR installer and the license text, then handwrite something on the front like "NPVR 2.x.x - Cheers, Sub". Unless of course selling a CD with NPVR on it confuses legal matters when the software is actually free for personal use.

Perhaps you can just get away with selling a licence? It doesn't necessarily have to do anything to the software, but those that "donate" can enter a key and turn their copy of NPVR into a properly licensed copy. Without the key it just stays in an indefinite "evaluation" mode. Then it wouldn't have to be anything other than an extra bit in the Settings dialog - perhaps in its "About" screen, that could show that this copy of NextPVR is licensed to <insert name here>...
