I was thinking of replacing one of my mvp's with something a bit newer. Which model NMT or something would be the best replacement? I don't do high def yet but would like the option. I spend most of the time watching videos in the room so support for decoding different media types natively would be good. Which NMT is the most supported with npvr?

They no longer manufacture new models of NMT's that support an NPVR client but you can still get refurbished A110's on the Popcornhour website. There is also ebay but the first generation NMT's from Popcornhour and other vendors like egreat, still go for a high price.

These original NMT's were quite powerful and still support playback of many video types, newer machines are better if you need advanced BluRay audio output. Playback of Flash video, proprietary Microsoft formats and of course DRM'd material will not be possible.

Martin.

Is there a better solution than an nmt? I am open to any suggestions. Whatever is the best/most supported replacement to the MVP.

Not that I've heard of, even though the supported NMT's are older generation now they are a HUGE step forward when compared to the old MVP, think of an MVP on super steroids & you will get the idea :p They also do a pile of other not NextPVR supported format media files.

That would be these NMT's Wink & the refurbished A110's are a really good deal at that low price. I have a referb'ed A100 & my brother has 4 A100's & an A110 all referb'ed & they are all still working great.

Sounds good, so I should look for an A-100 or A-110. Both are completely supported for NPVR?

Thanks for the input, wanted to make sure I got something that's supported by NPVR.

The EGreat 34a is still available on Amazon sold as new. It runs the NMT client too. It use to be the cheap option, but they run $199 now. I think I got my for about $140 about 18 months ago.

I just checked Media Concept who have been selling the egreat M34a for a long time still show them on ebay for $137 shipped in the US. egreat as a company no longer support their NMT based machines.

This is probably a really hard Q to answer, but as someone who loves the functionality and quietness of the NMT with Martin's great mvpmcx2 which runs it with NPVR, are other solutions on the horizon far enough away and likely to be so incompatible with NPVR that it is worth buying an A110 and have it sitting around as a replacement?

Simple answer - Yes

Hard answer - IMHO, chip changes, firmware changes, availability of SDKs and manufacturers co-operation, Etc make it unlikely that anyone is going to spend the time needed to reprogram any of the newer extenders for nPVR - maybe once the industry develops some standards...

I did.
Although for emergencies I have an atom/ion that would temporarily shut the family up from their screams of rage if my NMT packed up again.
