After not being able to use catalyst AMD Video Converter the last few versions, I decided to try SAF6. It works fine with NPVR but still AMD Video Converter crashes. I think I have 11.9 and will try that if I can find it and see if it works. If I do find it and anyone wants 11.9, I can put it up somewhere for you to download.

Hi.
Sorry, but why did you wrote it here? SAF have nothing to do with AMD video Converter.

AMD have about the last year or more of drivers on their Web site - put in the details for your card, there is a link along with the new drivers for previous drivers - probably the most used link on the site Big Grin
It's not an overly complicated system - it's more - overly simple operatives  Huh

I know my problems with AMD converter are codec related (based on their forum info) and was hoping SAF6 would help but it didn't. Neither did the driver rollback.

Lao Pan, I did find the old drivers on my hard drive as it appears each update saves them automatically unless you manually remove them.

(I confess I have been struggling to understand what you are asking hoborg to take a look at)

Do you mean that AMD convertor used to work fine but broke the first time you installed a SAF codec pack and that the problem still exists in SAF6? i.e. if anyone uses this encoder, it is likely that it will break if they install SAF and won't start working again after you uninstall it?

AMD Video Converter is part of the Catayst drivers and can be installed as an optional add on. It was broke after the second to last driver update (11.11). In reading the AMD forum, many have mentioned that it crashes due to a codec problem. AMD is not responding to anyone and rarely does.....they just put out new drivers every month or so and it they get to fixing 'your' problem, you are lucky, otherwise, tough.
I was hoping that SAF6 would help but was obviously wrong.
I have found that it does play my .ts files better but other than that, I can see nothing different.
Sorry for the confusion and hijaking this thread but I'm appreciative of the replies.

SAF is only used do decode not encode.
BTW, i found thier converter to be useless for me. It lack one basic function - deinterlace. You can even cannot change output resolution. For example if i want to transcode MPEG-2 SD recording to h.264 and do deinterlacing. This is not possible.

You can try to use "A's Video Converter":

Yes, it's not the perfect converter but for me, it's fast and good enough and uses AMD's Stream technology to do a 1 hour show in about 15 minutes on my pc.
Thanks for the link to A's......I think I've tried this before but I will do so again.
Merry Christmas.
