Thanks
Yes it was just for loading in virtualdub - not encoding.

At least I now know it is deliberate - not a broken installation. Smile - I can use other vfw codecs when needed

Thanks Hoborg
The Cyberlink Codec (11) is giving much better Picture Quality than the previous version - but in my case only with Catalyst 11.9 (HD5670) using 11.11 all the settings in ccc would change while viewing video - worst was deinterlace which was dropping from vector adaptive to bob. Changed back to 11.9 and even wife remarked on how clear the picture is Big Grin
This is on SD as well as HD

Thanks for this post - I have an HD4660 and have noticed my deinterlace has dropped from vector adaptive to bob, regardless of what's set in CCC. I have an older version of ccc installed as last time I upgraded it fecked up the scaling, so it reset not filling my flat screen which was dead annoying. I upgraded to the latest saf6 over the weekend and agree that the cyberlink codec is giving a much better picture quality than previous versions.

Is ccc 11.9 OK/usable? Does it feck up anything major? like scaling or interlacing? I take it 11.11 isn't wise move?

For My Graphics Card everything in 11.9 is working well - tried 11.10 last month - no video - although it works on my HD 4870 no problem!
Scaling is working for me no problem.
I always keep a copy of the previous drivers that I know worked for several weeks - just in case.

Thanks for the reply - will see if I can find 11.9 later and give it a go. Obviously keeping the one I have working now to hand! Smile

I have just discovered that with the latest PDVD11 in SAF 6.0.2, I can FF/RW UK DVB-HD shows without the image becoming corrupted. I had previously been forced to use the win7 MS decoder which looked great and didn;t corrupt the image but I had some really bad delays when I pressed FF/RW or pause.

This is a really really big breakthrough for me and is going to improve the usability of npvr enormously.

The only other problem I have is that the sound on many (5.1?) HD shows comes out too quiet, compared to the non-5.1? sound either side of the main show. I assume this is some kind of problem down-mixing 5.1 to 2-channel. I get the same thing with the LAV and divx codecs. This is output via HDMI from my ATI card to the TV. I need to test some more.

I listen to all Audio on 5.1 - Stereo is converted to 5.1 by the divx aac codec then via realtec dts encoder to the amp.I too have noticed that stereo was much louder than 5.1 content. I thought that it was the old adverts at twice the volume nastys that we used to get, but I have noticed the same on Merlin on BBC One HD - If ever there was a program that needed 5.1 surround that was it.
It could be that there is much more dynamic range in the 5.1 content. I was watching a film on Channel 4 HD a couple of weeks ago, 3/4 of the way through there was an almighty explosion which almost blew the back wall out of the living room Big Grin
Don't expect the neighbours were to impressed at half past midnight

Not having 5.1, I can't really experiment but I thought it might be that the centre channel is not being down-mixed well as dialogue is very quiet and b/c there does appear to be good dynamic range, I have to twiddle with my knob a lot (on the the volume control).

bugger, I spoke too soon. It seems PDVD11 does screw up when skipping HD content the same as it did before. I need to go back to MS codec and occasional long delays on skip for now.

[off topic] My guests, the wife and I were all "somewhat surprised" at 11:30pm the other week when we retired to the sitting room to listen to some relaxing music. I pressed "play" only to find that my nice Naim amp was actually at max volume. I nearly had to call an ambulance...

lol - that amused me while in a looooooooooooong work meeting Smile

[on topic] I had the MS decoder sometimes take hours for skipping HD content too. The problem with the PDVD one was that the pictured screwed up after, more than the pause. It seems to be a lot better now.
