ok so i have winXP, geforce 7600 GT OC and EVR is the only playback mode that works, everything else has tearing or other issues. it used to work perfectly now it has a weird issue(see pic) it only plays in a Little box at the top left. but if i right click on the screen for the menu (has settings, channels etc on it) then the whole screen shows one frame fullscreen and that frame stay there, then goes back to playing the miniaturized video. same thing in live tv.

i also tried playing a video from before this issue came up (that worked perfectly before) and it still happens. video plays fine in VLC

i havent changed any NPVR settings since it last worked for sure and i dont think i changed any vital windows setting either. no system updates(drivers etc). none of the other video mode have this issue, but they have the issues they've always had (tearing etc)

i guess i ll just post pics of all the video modes.
first pic is EVR
second VMR9FSE(VMR9Custom has same issue). VMR9FSE always had the tearing issue you can see in the pic, and still works fine in fullscreen (besides tearing still) even when now EVR deosnt.
3rd is VMR9 imagine a video playing with that artifact on the right on top and flickering all the time.
4th is VMR7 dimmed with a artifact on the right. screen shot didnt get the whole artifact, really twice as big.
Overlay no pic, i dont know how to describe it. its like static with a little picture mixed in.

so either can you help me get rid of the tearing in VMR9FSE or fix EVR fullscreen issues.

thanks

All your issues are "normal".
There is no way how to use NPVR on XP correctly, all renderers have issues. If you want to use NPVR, go for Vista/Win7 - that is only way. Or use GB-PVR on XP.

BTW, second picture doesnot have any tearing. This is interlaced artifacts. VMR custom / fullscreen exclusive have "broken" HW deinterlacing, causing this issue.

liskinator, if you disable hardware acceleration in your video decoder, then all of the renderers should give you a correct picture.

I'm not sure why VMR9 Custom and VMR9 FSE are not deinterlacing correctly for you - these should have been fine.

They stop using HW deinterlacing since you apply tearing fix here.

i tired those files, just put in NPVR directory and overwrite? correct?

i did that after a backup of course and it said NPVR has encountered an error and needs to close even before the GUI showed up. good thing i made a backup

so what should i do? i mean EVR worked fine before why now does it not work?

in the custom application profile in Nvidia control panel is their anything i can set to fix this w/o the dll's and new exe. ive already tried vsync and that didnt help.

thanks

///EDIT
"if you disable hardware acceleration in your video decoder"
How?

also im using FFdshow as all my decoders under the decoders tab in settings. should i use something else? should nvida purevideo show up there?

You can try the decoders in SDPack or CCCP (google for it). I had fairly good results under XP with EVR and the Cyberlink decoders.

the patch Hoborg linked to is for a much older version of NPVR. You can't use that with the current version. Hoborg was telling sub when the de-interlacing stopped working for him.

It was probably a video driver update that fouled up EVR for you. The symptom you're seeing is a known video driver bug, but until now AFAIK it's only affected VMR9.

To disable DXVA you have to change the settings in the decoder - you can click the box next to the decoder choice in Settings, and it will bring up the decoder's settings menu if it has one.

Disabling DXVA for LiveTV streams is not good idea, it will result in 1/2 framerate (if source is interlaced).

@liskinator:
Sorry, but there is no solution for WinXP. Use Vista/Win7 if you want to use NPVR, else use GB-PVR.

Hoborg I know you've spent quite a bit of time on these issues and have come to that conclusion, but there are plenty of people happily running NPVR on XP. Saying there is no solution for WinXP is just misguided.

liskinator just needs to find some other codecs or possibly update/back-rev his video driver.

that said, I certainly do recommend Windows 7 for pretty much everything, NPVR & GB-PVR included.

Becouse there is no solution for NPVR on XP (until SUB fix deinterlacing/AR problem on custom VMR renderer) Smile

1)you can produce progresive picture - so you can use FFDShow + YADFI x2 filter, but this will eat a lot of CPU power and results are not good for some streams (comparing to HW deinterlacing)
2)you can use for example PDVD (and lot of other video decoders) that output in different colorspaces - not NV12 - to avoid VMR9 resize bug, but all of them will produce 1/2 of framerate and blured picture due to a simple deinterlacing
3)you can use EVR renderer - this will fix all problems, but introduce tearing.

If some NPVR users are "happy" on XP user, then they are simply satisfyed with point 2.
