I have been getting ready for my new Cablecard tuner. To hedge my bets, I updated to W7 32bit from Vista 64 bit. The installation went smooth as silk and I was up and running minutes after 7 installed. I had kept my old npvr folder with the settings and just did a new npvr install and dropped the old folder on top of it and I got all of my settings, epg, scripts, etc back. I had to install AC3, but that was the only filter I had to get. The rest was just stock windows decoder stuff.

Then I decided to look at 7's media center since I am afraid that I might need it for some broadcast flag trouble. I have not looked at it in years. The setup seemed easy enough. Added my epg, it found my tuners correctly and then the wheels fell off. It scans for clear QAM channels, finds them, then for some dumb reason they dissappear. Obviously it is dumping them for some reason, but who knows why. Then I tried adding them manually, and MCE say there is no signal on the channel. No way to trouble shoot, just tough, it is not there. Obviously it is since I get flawless tv off my clear QAM channels in NPVR. I hope the new cablecard tuner fares better....

Thanks sub for making it so easy. sometimes I take your awsome program for granted. MCE is like walking down a dark alley with handcuffs on. I reallllllllly hope my main cable channels are not flagged copy once. If it is too bad, then I might have to head to an HD-PVR.

Let me know when your device arrives, and I'll get you a NextPVR 2.2 release to try.

I've had some local QAM channels that I've added manually in MCE no longer work but it was due to the fact that they were being moved every now and then. They do this to piss people off so they don't use QAM. I believe they don't want to support it.

@soccerdad-what cablecard tuner are you getting?

@sub-what does 2.2 do with cablecards? If it will work with the Ceton InfiniTV4, I'd be interested in trying it out.

It should do copy-freely channels, but unfortunately only with the Hauppauge DCR-2650 and HDHR Prime.

I am getting the DCR-2650 (as soon as they figure out how to injection mold the cases) My QAM channels have not changed in the last 2 years, knock on wood... If is just that MCE refuses to find them. Actually when it scans for channels, it actually shows the channel names, say 6 channels found, then about 2 seconds later, it drops back and says 1 channel found. I even stopped the scan as soon as it found the channel and it still did it. Perhaps the signal is not as high as it wants, but all of my NPVR recordings are great. I just don/t know what it wants.

Have you checked the SiliconDust link to see the QAM available in your area to make sure it's correct? http://www.silicondust.com/support/channels/
And followed this to add them manually? http://www.hack7mc.com/2009/01/manually-...ls-to.html

I've not had problems with MCE and the firewall but I would definitely turn off UAC before trying anything. It's nothing but a nuisance.

Thanks Paul.
I am not going to worry about it too much since I will be using npvr to record any QAM. I am just playing with MCE to see how it works. For the record, since I have the clear QAM working on npvr, I know the channel numbers. The really odd thing when you go through your listed hack, you can see the channels it found, encrypted or not. The channel numbers in the scan end at about 110.1 and my clear QAM channels are 115.x and 116.x. Therefore the hack won't work.

Well that sux, I've been waiting for something so I could use my Ceton w/ nPVR, I sure hope there will be something for it soon.

I've been working on a tuner plugin that allows NPVR to use SageTV network encoders and an updated version will be made available when sub releases his next version.

SageDCT (which is the SageTV solution for Ceton) is a network encoder so you should have something for copy freely soon.
