Hi all,

I am a new user of NPVR and so far I am impressed. Its the first piece of htpc software that hasn't crashed on me every five minutes.

However is there something I need to set/configure to get it to wake my computer from an S3 sleep for a scheduled recording?

Thanks.

The only thing I can think of is to ensure the Task Scheduler service is running.

I'm not sure it even needs that. I thought NPVR asks windows to ask the BIOS to wake things up.

One thing to watch out for when testing is to not set a wakeup time that is too close and manually set the system to sleep - best to let the system sleep normally with power-saving and let it wake up naturally. (I used to get "no wakes" when I tried this in the early days).

Sleep and wake-up is the one thing in windows that can be really tricky to get working. In my experience it varies a lot from one MB to another, and bios settings can have a profound impact on whether it works or not. I don't think there is an all-valid way to do it, just try the standard settings and mind what martin123 says.

I have had Media Centre work fine when waking for a record and then sleeping afterwards. I must admit I have been forcing it to sleep to try and see it wake up. I'll do what you say and let it sleep on its own. I'll let you know.

If you have a look in your NRecord.log, you'll see it requesting wake-ups for each and every recording, 2 minutes before each recording starts. it does this any time the EPG is updated, and any time a recording is deleted. like so:
Code:

.... and so on...
you can verify exactly when NPVR thinks it's supposed to wake up.

at this point it's all Windows doing the wakeups. NPVR has nothing to do with it.

The difficult thing usually is to get Windows to "sleep" but I have an old Dell which I have tried all BIOS and Windows settings and NPVR cannot wake it from sleep although keyboard and mouse will. This particular computer has a BIOS low power sleep mode option which it warns you stops it waking by some methods which could be your problem. I didnt spent a lot of time on the problem as it was only being a temporary fix until the new motherboard for my NPVR server arrives.
