Any thoughts?

(I'm not really sure what mine are)

Looks like there will be less free content and more pay-to-watch in the future.

It's funny in a sick way that as people have less money to spend, the things we use to get for free are no longer free. I'm sure soon emails will cost per letter and browsers will come with a loan to pay for them.
In the states, the government is talking of selling the analog signals the local stations use to use.

Doesn't sound like something I would buy or subscribe to... but I'm sure some will.

I think what worries me is the number of big names signed up to it. If every TV, set-top box, phone, etc comes with support for it, it may soon become the only way they want to release new content. I also doubt they'll be interested in letting NPVR, MediaPortal, XMBC, and so on work with it too.

That's not to say I'm opposed to the idea of instant access to a massive library of HD quality movies, stored at someone else's expense, but not only does the price have to be right, the *quality* does too. I wouldn't settle for anything less than blu-ray now. I've seen the Xbox's 5-ish Mbps so-called HD, and it just doesn't compare.

Nothing for me, i dislike cloud- and ondemandsystems like this. NextPVR Server/Client and WildMediaServer (for the DLNA devices in our house) are enough for me.

I like to buy movies and watch them whenever i want: today, tonight, next year in ten years without paying again for "my" stuff. ;D

You missed this bit then?...

Quote:...you own the movie for life, and should be able to play it anywhere.
It seems that's supposed to be a key point of UV - you "buy" a movie from the cloud-based UV service and it's added to your UV account enabling you to view it "for life". It also suggest that if you buy a DVD/Bluray of a movie, you'll get a UV redemption code which you can use to add that movie to your UV account.

Cheers,
Brian

Of course i didn't missed it. You just don't believe by yourself, that this "service" would survive 10 or even 20 years?

Like mentioned before: i have already a few disks, where something like this is already available. A "redeem code" to download pc/ps3/xbox versions of movies (of course timelimited ...). Additional disks containing .wmv videos for limited copying on own systems (lol).

Nah, not interested in such stuff like this. I am happy with my own media and don't need such cloudingstuff.

We can discuss this topic in 5 or 10 years, if ultraviolet should survive this period of time. =P
