thank you
Lao pan

yesterday i brought my first tv tuner card(usb)
i have no experience of using any until now

Let me give the details
The user interface or the device application allows me to capture the video in avi,dvd,h264,mpeg1/2/4 format
and audio in wav and wmv format
it also allows me to schedule a record
Time Shifting (Dont know what it is)
Scrolling Text marquee support (Dont know what it is)
picture modes (4)

Now the accessories
the device has antenna (two copper wires connected to a jack)
and also comes with extendable usb cable
with s-video and audio video connectors

Now the question is
What frame rate should i set while recording the range is 1000 to 4000
what format (Mpeg1/2/4/avi) gives me good quality and low file size

important questions that i would like to stress
i am using an ordinary(local made) coax cable splitter to split the cable connection
would the signal from the tv or current effect the device (as i will be using the device and the tv simultaneously)

coax cable wire (split connected to pc) (cable end connected to tv)
________________________|_____________________________0

should i eject the device safely or should i remove it without hesitation

and how long can i use a tv tuner card (hours

what kind of effects do tv tuner cards especially usb type have on a pc

and a request
how to boost signal from a coax cable (i mean the clarity should be like crystal clear)
on searching google i found that there are amplifiers which do it (if so what are those)

If you are going to use NPVR, then forget about the tuner's native software, otherwise you are asking questions in the wrong forum.
Now, if this is a digital capture device (which I believe it is) you don't have to worry about framerate, format etc, in fact you will have no choice since a digital capturedevice records whatever the broadcaster transmits.
If you get a good signal with the antenna delivered with the device it's fine, and you don't have to worry about splitter. If you have to use a splitter then remember they "steal" about 50% of the signal Sad. There are amplifiers to be found in shops which you can connect right after the antenna before the splitter, but be careful, a too strong signal is as bad as a weak signal, and can even "burn" your tv/capturedevice.

Read the wiki about getting started and setting up npvr, and if you have a problem, post yous logs along with your question. Good luck Smile

First of all Thank you Reddwarf

NPVR is not recognizing the device the device is i ball claro tv http://img5.imageshack.us/img5/5917/54783163.jpg
since i live in india we get only one channel via broadcast(antenna) which the device is unable to catch
i use cable connection which gives us around 80 channels for 100INR
besides we use settop boxes and dth (which i cannot afford)

one important thing i noticed is usb cable the clarity of the signal is varying according to the cable i use (checked it twice using two cables)
the question now is (is this a myth?)

Note: We dont have standards here that regulate quality we dont even know who the manufacturer is for some products such as usb cables and splitters (probably local made i think)

Ok, so it is an analog device, not a digital one as I assumed. In that case, you need to have the SoftPVR components installed. Search the forums for SoftPVR and you should find out how to install it. Also the device may need to be defined in AnalogDevices.xml. Run the Filtercheck.exe program you find where npvr's program files are installed, then zip and attach Filtercheck.log here.

Since the usb-cable is a digital cable it should not matter which cable you use, but as you say, locally made cables may not comply with the specifications for usb, so thus you may get a degraded signal.

Let's hear how you'r doing Smile

First of all thank you so much Reddwarf

The problem is when i run filter check it just starts and disappears i was unable to find any files of filtercheck.log in the log files
in the datadirectory users>nptv>logfiles i also used windows7 search bar with the keyword the outcome was nothing but filtercheck.exe no log files

but instead of that i am uploading the nptv log files here

and you asked me to use soft pvr
i downloaded it and found a dll file(which i pasted in Programfiles>npvr)

now the question is i saw http://www.nextpvr.com/nwiki/pmwiki.php?...ugeSoftPVR

i didnt do this
" Download and install the latest version of WinTV7 from the Hauppauge support website. Note that the installer requires that you have an earlier WinTV CD available and a supported Hauppauge device installed in your PC. "

that might be the problem

please clarify about filter check

and when i go to hauppauge site i see that there are many options such as select product

no what product should i choose to download wintv7 for my product (which of course is not hauppauge)

The filtercheck.exe is in Program Files\NPVR, so Filtercheck.log will be there too Smile
