My NPVR machine doesn't have enough grunt to play HD .ts files (90+% cpu) without severe stutter. However, my Samsung SmartTV
apparently has a much more efficient processor & can play any media file on my home network without difficulty. I've been scheduling recordings through NPVR & playing them back through the TV's processor. Unfortunately, the tv playback system doesn't have some must-have features like the ability to fast forward through commercials & resume at any point in the video.

Is there a way within NPVR to send the ts stream directly to the tv to be decoded there rather than on the PC? Probably not, but I'd hate to not ask & be wrong.

If you had a 9600Pro or better and Win7, you could do HD. I do with a Sempron 2800. Not the best, but OK. You might even try 7 with the 6200. I couldn't do HD with XP and a 6200.

Another question, does your Samsung TV support SmartHub? If so you might want to check out Plex. I have a Samsung TV too and I actually working on a Samsung app for NextPVR, to get access to NextPVR's recordings, resume location etc.

I'v just tested with a 9600Pro, and it does not play H.264 HD smoot, you'll need a ASUS/ATI AH3400HD or better, but your processor should do. And I would recommend 2gig ram to avoid windows paging activity.

Good point Reddwarf on the h.264. I should have noted that my experience is with mpeg2 in the US.

If anymore re cobbling is considered, don't forget to consider the power supply.
I once built up a 1.8 celeron with a P4 2.4 , +1Gig ram and a better video card but forgot about the original 250 watt power supply.
A few days later the playback locked up and when I entered the room where the PC was I was greeted by that sickly sweet electrical fire smell.
Fortunately the only casualty was the power supply.

Interesting. I am considering a Samsung blu-ray player to run Plex but it's not clear if it will support HD audio output for my blu-ray mkvs or if it supports DVD rip (VIDEO_TS) playback. Plex will import your TV recordings if you add the series and episode numbers to the file names so that is kind of covered already but do you think you will be able to add any Live TV streaming to your Samsung app?

Yes, it does have SmartHub, although I haven't used it much. Is there a Plex app? I saw a YouTube video of one but couldn't find it at the Samsung
App Store. Or perhaps you're talking about the Plex Media Server? I'll have to check it out. Right now I'm running Serviio to access my NVPVR videos. Serviio is a little faster on the TV and automatically adds new recordings to the playlist, unlike Samsung's AllShare server.

A NextPVR app would be great. Don't forget to include fast forward, rewind & resume. I'd be glad to help with testing.
