Worth it to migrate from GB-PVR 1.4.7?

Worth it to migrate from GB-PVR 1.4.7?

Been using various versions since 2006 but hesitated jumping into the NPVR pool since my 1.4.7 setup was working so well.

My curiosity about NPVR has resurfaced, so before downloading the installer I've a few questions for folks:

- My stored recordings collection is pushing 2TB and I DO NOT want to lose any GB-PVR metadata. Does NPVR provide a GB-PVR database import step? I don't mind having to recreate all my recurring recording entries, although it would be nice if NPVR simply slurped that stuff in, too.

- I am used to manually hacking the GB-PVR database to do things like change recording filenames, change recording descriptions, etc.. Are these data available in NPVR in a similarly-accessible SQLite format?

- I use 3 third party tools fairly regularly, are they available for NPVR as well?
* MpegImport
* Wiz Episode Tweaker
* WizRenameRecording

- Is it possible to run GB-PVR v1.4.7 and NPVR in parallel to compare & contrast?

Thanks for any help!

Does NPVR provide a GB-PVR database import step?
yes, from recordings-dump.xml. Run an export in gbpvr 1st so it is up to date.

I don't mind having to recreate all my recurring recording entries
good!! (because I think you may need to)

Are these data available in NPVR in a similarly-accessible SQLite format?
yes

* MpegImport
no
* Wiz Episode Tweaker
no
* WizRenameRecording
no but you can now get this functionality in posstprocessing.bat and NScriptHelper.exe

Is it possible to run GB-PVR v1.4.7 and NPVR in parallel to compare & contrast?
Yes! as long as you don't try and record from both at the same time.

good luck.

Of all your questions, this is the easiest to answer...yes, you can run gbpvr and npvr on the same machine at the same time as they use separate installation/data folders and unique components (exes / dlls etc).

One thing to be aware of is obviously they'll share TV capture cards so you need to plan how to allocate those (or how npvr will use them for test recordings, for example). I have 4 DVB-T cards and removed 1 from my gbpvr setup and allocated it to npvr when running both in parallel.

As for the DB - the npvr DB is similar to the gbpvr one and is also a SQLite one. As for 3rd party tools, I can't comment.

Cheers,
Brian
