Having trouble on getting NPVR to run on a clean win7 64 bit install. Will it work on 64bit several of the suggested microsoft support files don't seem to want to install. NPVR runs, can set up a device, but when I go to live TV the whole thing locks up.

Any help appreciated.

Yes, it will run on Win7 64 bit. That's what I'm using for the development, and piles of other people are using it too.

What specifically is going wrong?

I've been running nothing but Win7 x64 since it came out and I have NPVR running on 3 machines. Which support files won't install?

When you install codecs (and splitters), remember that npvr is a 32-bit application and won't see the 64-bit versions so install 32-bit it you have a choice.

I think I know one of the things that the OP is seeing. Does a 64-bit version of the Visual C++ Runtime exist? The one that's linked in the wiki doesn't install on a 64-bit system. NPVR seems to be working fine without it, so perhaps it's already cooked into Windows 7?

Kasper, check the folder listed for Live TV in the Misc section of the settings screen. If the buffer directory listed there doesn't exist then Live TV will have problems.

That's not quite enough for 64-bit. I wouldn't want to go lower than 4 GBs. My Windows 7 64-bit computer I built has 12 GBs of DDR3 RAM currently.

32-bit can go as high as 4 GBs (3.25 shown as usable on average). 64-bit Windows 7 can go as high as 192 GBs!

64-bit needs only slightly more memory than 32-bit. by slightly more, I mean like 2% (in otherwords, none). That said, there's *rarely* (but not never) a reason to use 64-bit with less than 4GB of RAM.

In the real world, more is better. Right now for instance, I have 89 processes going using 5.09 GBs of RAM total. Everything is running nice and smooth Smile

Windows 7 64-bit has a system requirement of 2 GBs of RAM...

But requirements always increase with the more load you put on a computer.

Respectively, I must argue this point. Sure more is better, but it costs more and may not be what npvr needs to function properly. I have had issues before, but after upgrading to a faster hd and a better power supply, the prior issues I have had disappeared. Windows needs a good hardware base to run on, and when stable any apps installed should also run rock solid. Fix your Win issues, then address npvr! my 2c worth!
