I'm playing with streaming using HTTP and when the client requests a file name which has 'space' characters in it they're replaced by '+' characters. Example...
Code:
D:/nPVR/Doctor+Who/Doctor+Who_20100619_18401930.mpg
So in my software I replace '/' with '\' and '+' for a space giving me a valid file name for the recording.

It occurs to me though that someone somewhere may have made a TV series or film or whatever which has '+' characters in the title. I can't think of any myself but does anyone know of any?

Cheers,
Brian

Those would be reserved in the filename so NextPVR would strip them before the file was created.

I initially thought that but '+' is a valid character for use in filenames (on NTFS at least) - I tried renaming a random file as a test. Wasn't sure if npvr stripped them or not.

I stand corrected, I just figured that the copy command used the + then it would be blocked but they are ok in long file names, I guess they go in quotes.

There are none in my database.

Your logic stands - I'm sure the + was invalid in DOS before long filenames. The ability to quote filenames probably reduced the subset of invalid characters - the space itself being an obvious one.

Anyway, it occured to me I could fix my URL encoding at the client-end to use %20 for spaces instead. Still curious to know if there have ever been any TV or film names with a + in them. Smile

Since genreLite has the IMDB database available it is an easy query only 39 TV shows and 279 movies out of almost 600,000 titles have the +

lol - thanks for that.

I guessed there would have to be some. Lucky I fixed things otherwise it may well have come back and bit me at some point even with such a small percentage. Smile

Cheers,
Brian
