I just installed NPVR, and did a channel scan. It found all the channels ok but has them associated to "DVB/ATSC EPG". I want to use Schedules Direct (SD). I see how to change an individual channel to SD but how do I tell NPVR to use it for all the channels? Please don't tell me I have to do them all individually, there has to be a way to say use SD as the default EPG. I tried the "bulk map" but it did nothing (updated first channel, answered "Yes", nothing changed).

My next question is on channel mapping. I mapped one channel and did an EPG update, using SD. It did not display as I expected. In the initial scan KONG came up as channel 2 (left hand column in "Settings/Channels". When I changed the EPG to SD I also set the mapping to channel 6, the channel it uses on my cable providers guide. I expected to see the NPVR guide show channel 6, instead it shows 2.

Finally, in the channel list I see channel listings ending in things like _CL, _CLK, _HC, etc. What do those suffixes mean?

You should be able to manually update one channel in the 'bulk map' screen, and it'll ask if you want to automatically update the rest. I used this just the other day and it successfully updated nearly all channels - there were just a couple of channel with slight naming differences that needed manually updating.

If this isnt working for you, you can zip and attach your npvr.db3 and your schedulesdirect.xml and I'll try it here.

I dont know what you mean. It isnt a standard thing all schedules direct users get. It must just be something special about your channel line up.

Is the bulk update supposed to also change the EPG to SD, if I made that change on that first entry? I just tried it again and nothing changes. I updated one channel, changing it to SD and mapping a channel. I was asked the if I wanted it to update the rest. I said Yes, but none of the other entries changed. They're still "DVB/ATSC EPG" and no entries in "XMLTV Channel" column.

Where do I find those files? I looked in the "Program Files/NPVR", "Program Data" and "Users/...../Appdata/Local and Roaming".

They're in the NextPVR data directory.

Windows Vista & Windows 7: C:\users\public\npvr\
Windows XP: C:\documents and settings\all users\application data\npvr\

I found the files, they are too large to attach, received an error. Instead I put them in Dropbox. Here's the link to them:

That's got your npvr.db3. Can you also post your schedulesdirect.xml file?

The bulk of your problem seems to be caused by your broadcaster using odd names that dont match the names that Schedules Direct uses, so it's not able to do the name match. For example, your scanned in channel has a name like 'SPK_HCL', with Schedules Direct calls it 'SPIKEP', 'KIRO-DT' vs 'KIRO' etc. The app isnt going to be able automatically match these.

This is the first time I've seen naming this bad. Most people can match the majority automatically, with just a small handful of channels with naming differences like this. Unfortunately there probably isnt much you can do about it other than manually map the channels.

Yuck! What about setting Schedules Direct as the default EPG? Is there a config file somewhere I can change to force that?

And speaking of mapping, can you address my question on that?

"My next question is on channel mapping. I mapped one channel and did an EPG update, using SD. It did not display as I expected. In the initial scan KONG came up as channel 2 (left hand column in "Settings/Channels"). What I want is for the NPVR guide to match my providers guide for the channel numbers. Using my example of KONG what do I change to make that happen?

On the Channels tab, you can rename and re-number the channels to whatever you want. Yes, because your schedules direct channel names are so different from your scanned channel names, you're going to have to map them all by hand. Just go down the list and fix them. Once you've set your SD login information on one channel and loaded the channel list, all you have to do on the remaining channels it select SD and then the channel name. Honestly most of us here setup many, many channels long before there ever was any sort of automatic channel mapping function, it was never considered all that big a deal.

On the channel numbering, you can set the channel number in the details (double-click) dialog for each channel. What you set there is how it will display in the EPG, and has no relation to the physical channel.
