Freeview HD is (finally) coming to my area next month. What are my options with regards to tuner hardware, EPG and codecs?

Tuner Hardware - Either Blackgold PCI-E Dual DVB-T2 tuner card or PCTV Nano Stick USB Single Tuner - I use the latter along with a Dual PCI-E DVB-T (SD) card (There is only one HD Mux so never had any conflicts) - havn't seen any others.
Only Problem I had to start was my Gigabyte MB wouldn't supply enough juice for the stick - powered hub solved the problem.

EPG - I use DVBGuide to get the full EPG from either BBC1 (SD) Mux or ITV1 (SD) Mux - Takes about 7-8 mins to collect and DVBGuide can decode the HD Channel Guides (Hoffman Tables) - Otherwise Radio Times is an option.

Codecs - Windows 7 native H264 or Cyberlink for Video (latest PQ is excellent) and either LAV Audio or DivX for the HC-AAC Audio - SAF6 does the business for me - has all but the Win7 Codec -Just requires a little tweek for what I need.
It's not an overly complicated system - it's more - overly simple operatives  Huh

I have the PCTV nano stick as well but I am currently suffering a bit with slightly stuttering HD recordings - looks like it is reporting a weakish signal, but the same cable to a nova-t-500 gives solid signal strength and quality. I get the EPG from a separate import from the radio times and xmltvgui.

I also found this ...

but I bought a Blackgold from Scan (only to find that my only available PCI-e slot is shagged so I have to get a new m/board as well - joy of joys).

Don't TBS also have a quad DVBT2 tuner for sale - they probably actually have them in stock unlike the blackgold vapourware.

But have you seen the price of them? Wink

Possibly a good approach if starting from scratch (supports T & T2) but with only one T2 mux for a while at least it's a bit of an overkill for anyone who already has DVB-T capture cards.

Cheers,

I went for the blackgold as well and use DVBGuide. It has been a very reliable combination.

A few months later... Smile ... Just installed a TBS6280, working perfectly with Cyberlink & LAV codecs.

Struggling with the EPG, trying to use DVBGuide to get the EPG for the HD channels. Can anyone help by posting an example batch file?

McBainUK!

How's Pompey life? I do hope treating you well Wink

Currently trying to remove cat's tail from my monitor and have to be nice to her as she has Birthday today! But the flicky tail does get in the way...

Been wanting to say this to you for ages..... But how about having a go at a Birtles Xml EPG? Grabbing RT data? Something tells me that with your now outdated but sorely missed GB-PVR Cinema Listings Plugin you like a good source of info. RT data I believe you would like and once you get the hang highly McBainUK friendly!

nice to see you (well chat any way)
