I've been trying and trying but I can't get Live TV to work at the same time as being able to play recordings on a client machine.

With a fresh install of 2.4.3 I can't get live TV to work but I can watch recordings. Patching as far as the live TV patch gets me live TV but then recordings won't play. If I then patch to the client playback patch then the recordings work (mostly) but I get the dreaded no tuner available problem with Live TV again.

Tonight I re-downloaded all the patches and stuck each one in turn into both the server and client machines (previously I just used the latest version of each file). Now I get neither live TV nor playback on the client.

I have the server nrecord and the client npvr logs for attempting to watch live TV attached. I'll take a run at the recordings playback logs tomorrow.

It looks like you've got two devices, an HVR-1800 and an HDPVR. Is there any difference depending on which device the video originates from? ie, MPEG2 from the 1800, or H264/AAC from the HDPVR.

I've only been using the Colossus really. I'll change the live TV priority and record some non HD channels and see if they work.

That "server" NRecord files shows that the server was not started so there likely is another newer log actually showing live tv starting up.

The line in the client log that looks the most problematic

2012-05-28 19:16:48.714 [DEBUG][1] Client got streaming handle: 160002
...
2012-05-28 19:16:48.952 [DEBUG][1] Using 'NPVR TS Reader2'
2012-05-28 19:17:07.586 [DEBUG][1] RenderDemux()

That's an 18+ second delay on livetv when live doesn't really like a 10 second gap.

That 18 seconds or so is probably a timeout happening. It's probably a sign it's failed to connect to the server altogether.

We'd need a matching client and server log so we can check though. As Martin pointed out, that nrecord.log from above doesn't show it.

Well I think I found a source for the problems I've been having - Java. My laptop has updated a couple of times but it dawned on me last night that I hadn't seen the java update requestor on the server or client for some time. Then I remembered I'd downgraded Java some time ago and turned off updates in an attempt to get Sage to play nice. I updated both machines (and rebooted though Java doesn't seem to require reboots) and Live TV appears to work perfectly (could be simple coincidence of course).

I also found the recordings worked fine on the colossus and 1850 - unless I watched them as they were recording.

I had Game of Thrones on HBO set to record and about 10 minutes into the show I started watching the recording (launched from the recordings screen, not guide or live TV menu items). That worked fine but the next day the recording wouldn't play properly (long delay then the times on the play screen were messed up and video froze after 1 second). I checked later by playing on MPC and it played fine - but it was the show that came after game of thrones... Somehow NPVR kept recording (perhaps because we were watching with a 10 minute delay?) and erased the first hour or so.. Might be related to the old Java too though.

I'll try watching a recording show again and see what happens with the update Java.

I don't see why updating Java should do anything as NextPVR doesn't use Java??

Yep, it was coincidence. It's back to telling me both tuners are in use for live TV when neither one is. I guess the reboot cleared whatever it is that prevents it from using the tuner. Logs attached and I made sure they were both from the same time period.

I also just tried watching a show as it was recording but with around a 10 minute delay. It cuts off playback when the recording stops (even though there lots of time left in the recording) and won't play from the recordings menu thereafter.
