I used to use the ir reciever that came with my hauppauge pvr-150. I recently replaced my pc but it only has 1 pci slot so I put in my pvr250 which doesnt have a receiver. What can I buy as a replacement. preferably as cheap as possible?

thanks!

The MCE one pictured on the wiki is a good bet, as it's definitely supported by most software you'd want to use, and can wake the PC from hibernate. It has a really long cable too, which can be useful.

I've had issues in the past with a 'Vista MCE remote' that wasn't recognized by IR Server Suite.

@chewy

I don't think that will work. It looks like the type that shows up as in Win as a keyboard or mouse, rather than the ehome IR device, which is what you want. The correct type seems to be a bigger receiver box, something like this:

I have that one and it works fine.
HTPC: Optiplex 7010, HDHR Prime/Avermedia Duet A188, NPVR 4.2.5, Win10 Pro

Not sure what your definition of not working is? I have three of them successfully operating NPVR.

For the record it shows up as both an ehome IR Receiver (under USB controllers), and as a keyboard.

Out of curiosity, can they be instructed to respond to other remotes like the Hauppauge ones? (I ask as I had one included when I got a tuner from ebay but have never got round to trying it out - no remote, just the sensor).

Yes, I use mine with a Hauppauge remote via IR server suite. There's a ready to use configuration for this on the wiki.

The mce remotes are still being made, they have new win7 versions!
[same as xp-MCE, just extra buttons on remote]
not sure about win8 tho as they nixed the media center...

Don't know if this thread is still alive, but here goes.....
After LOTS of searching (this forum and the net) I have not found an answer.

I have Dell Optiplex with Windows XP SP3. I'd like to be able to control nPVR with a remote, instead of the keyboard.
I have a Sony RM VLZ 620 universal learning remote.

Can I use a MCE receiver, like you find on eBay? With a MCE receiver talk to Win XP?

I don't want to blindly order hardware, only to find out it won't work.

Thanks for any help.
