In my utopia, I would like to be able to schedule future recordings (or notify me possibly via message or email or whatever) based on key parameters.

For Example:
[INDENT] Record everything that has "James Garner"
or Record everything that has "James Garner" but not from the Series "8 simple Rules"
or Record everything that has "James Garner" but only movies (Or only non-movies)
or Record everything that has "James Garner" but not programs that have previously been recorded successfully
or Record everything that has "James Garner" with an "Original Air Date" < 1/1/1980
or whenever it comes up, Record the Program "Support your local Sheriff"[/INDENT]

I feel like I'm constantly having to query the guide for programs or movies, and then I have to try and remember if it is one I have seen before. Because as you know there is only 2 weeks worth of guide data so it makes finding that program a chore.

Then for some options, allow it to record from a specific channel or any channel, at a certain quality, like HD, what priority level to assign it, and the option to remove this search Parameter once it has been fulfilled or by a certain date allow it to expire.

I'm sure scheduling is already advanced and becoming more so as new priorities and queries are identified, but I think the above feature is not something that I have seen available anywhere (Maybe TIVO has some of this). It might even be something you could allow us to script, hopefully via the GUI.

What do you think? Something you'd be interested in? I know I'd be extremely interested in this one.

Another recording option might be to record the show based on it's program number or ID?

I thought this type of feature would be something that people might want? I'm very interested in it.

SageTV provided a fair mechanism for specifying recordings based on actor, etc. We would like to see this as well as the ability to say don't record if I already have a recording of this (in XBMC or some other lib).

the reason I believe this has not been added is its complexity and difficulty in making a interface for it usable by a remote. im sure the backend would likely support this, you would just need to get it in the backend. then when you viewed it in the recording screens and tried to change it, it would likely break, so you would need to be aware of that.

I do like how recording in nextpvr is relatively simple, and not overly complex, i just want to record the entire series of the show. in other pvrs this can be a somewhat complex rule which is a little confusing.

currently director and cast members are not stored in the database, so you may need to use a 3rd party addon to also retrieve listings and make rules in that to schedule in nextpvr. unless the actor was mentioned in the epg event description (which for most cases would be unlikely).

a good rule i may like to use, is record every movie that came out in the last year if it hasnt already been recorded.

@fbacher check out UJB's Schedules Direct Utilities http://gbpvr.com/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Utili...tUtilities

@reven you could create an advanced rules for

Code:
where julianday('now') - julianday(original_air_date) < 365
and genres like '%Movie%'

On the forum I have posted a link to a utility I wrote genreLite that will add the IMDB date for most films.

thats pretty much the case. The backend can already handle complicated stuff, but its too hard to create screens that can be easily driven by a remote, so I've opted to instead keep the screens clean and easy to understand.

yeah i know i could create an advanced rule like that Smile but once its in there, kinda have to stop myself from editing it any way in fear it would break when i clicked "ok". i *may* (dont hold me to this) add an advanced rule option to my web console, but just concentrating on the defaults ATM.

One thing i don't like about NEWA is how the recording options dont match up with the main nextpvr app, i never know if im scheduling the recording right in NEWA.

I started a wishlist in 2008 and UJB has been great adding a lot of these.
Still looking for multiple and options and exclude options though.

I can see what you mean by making the interface more cluttered and I don't want that either. But for the more advanced stuff, I'd rather connect via a web browser to the system and make my requests that way. It is too difficult to type/enter names and such with the remote anyways. K/B interface would be preferable.
