I dont have a wiki like description for you, but I can tell you that 2.5.9 added the client/server calls that were going to be necessary to enable a future xbmc release. ie, querying the lists of channels, lists of recordings, streaming live tv, streaming a recording etc. There is no settings required in NextPVR to support this.

After 2.5.9 was out, I also gave people access to the xbmc addon I've been working on for the last few weeks. This allowed xbmc users to enable the nextpvr backend, and see the lists of channels, lists of recrodings, stream live tv, stream a recording etc.

At the moment I've only made that addon available as source code, and people like wileecoyote, KRA and BrainStormer have been kind enough to build binaries for their different platforms (Windows, Linux, Raspberry Pi), and wileecoyote has made them available for download on his website: http://www.dotnetdevelopers.net/XBMC/xbmcpvr.html. Wilee's page also has some brief instructions for how to install the plugin. This is a temporary solution until I can get the addon code merged into the main xbmc code. Once it's merged, then we'll have a straight forward set of steps for the user to setup xbmc with nextpvr.

I'm extremely impressed with the collaboration on XBMC but will use NextPVR 90% of the time.
I'm thankful to all who were/are involved in the process.

Pity this thread is in Documentation (where a large number of users don't seem to delve) instead on in the xbmc section where I suspect they will delve..... it may have even been useful as a temporary sticky in that sub forum.

Steeb, I agree that some documentation would be good but meanwhile I think you with very little effort can set this up yourself. I dont consider myself an expert in this area but I am learing as I go. I have for example never used XBMX until 2 days ago and I got it working quite easily. I had one hickup as one of the XMBC builds did not play well with the NPVR addon. My next challenge is to set up my Raspberry PI RASPBMC client.

In general, if you have an existing NPVR setup with a working NEWA there is NO configuration needed in NPVR. All you need to do is to follow the steps in this link http://www.dotnetdevelopers.net/XBMC/xbmcpvr.html)

Assuming you are setting up the XMBC on a WIN7:

1. Download and install XBMC Frodo build from the 25th (http://mirrors.xbmc.org/nightlies/win32/...master.exe)
2. Download XBMC PVR addon (http://www.dotnetdevelopers.net/XBMC/pvr...262683.zip) unzip and place the content in the XBMC addon folder (C:\Users\USER_NAME\AppData\Roaming\XBMC\addons folder)
3. Start XBMC and enable the NPVR addon (you can watch the youtube tutorial to see how this is done http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i43eV...ature=youtu.be)
4. Enable LiveTV in XMBC settings
5. Start LiveTV in XMBC and enjoy.

+1
Sub, perhaps you could add a short sticky to the XBMC forum to provide some context on "what this whole xbmc/npvr thing is" pretty much as u have done in #21

Thanks all for helping to clarify and put up with tired old me (read sometimes a bit arsey!)

Perhaps this should have been in the xbmc thread? But I was not sure of what clarifications were needed?

It is v difficult for me to follow as a seasoned user of this forum, I would not like to think how hard for a newbie?

Hence my questions re clarification.

I see now that there is a new sticky for X-Newa in the xbmc thread which goes a great way to help to clarify the difference between what Martin has worked on and what sub has done!

Though I still find it hard to single out each one and understand the pro's and con's of either system... But until I can get a working v of each I guess I may not understand.

Thanks agerdin. Am not on Win7 but have managed to get sub's add-on showing in xbmc but with no joy talking back to my NextPVR server.

And before anyone shouts at me for going OT Wink

this is half the problem... Where to post and ask questions? Is this done in the NextPVR forum or the xbmc one?

cheers all for your patience and understanding!

That's why I wrote I was temporarily ignoring you. I figured you might understanably ask questions on each and every post which tend to get in the way. You need to get a working XBMC and then let the questions and curiosity begin on your own thread.

I'll be glad to help one you're there.

you're not going OT here because this is *your thread* !! so type away. Fill your boots!

But until I can get a working v of each I guess I may not understand.
If you can't get the xbmc plugin to talk to npvr (and XP is a supported OS), post in the xbmc forum.
If you can't get the x-newa plugin to talk to npvr (and XP is a supported OS), post in the x-newa forum.

[i.e what Martin said below] [edit: above]

As I said, I got both talking plugins to talk to my npvr server (on the same pc) in minutes.

Thanks gEd!

having a clean up on my system at the moment.

But first test results running a windows (XP) machine with xbmc trying to call my NextPVR server over the network failed, consistently and head scratchingly so. So I guess that is a post for the xbmc forum? And sub answers there I guess to explain what the NextPVR pin is?

cheers

If you have installed xbmc on a separate machine to that on which npvr lives, I confess I am not sure how you configure it to talk to the npvr server as there appears no obvious config to point (although it is late....) This would be a fair question to post in xbmc forum.
