Just thought I'd put in a plug for mvalleland's mvpmx2 and the NMT devices - I have 2 PCH A110s and they are superb. Maintenance free, tiny, and do exactly what you are describing.
HD-PVR Rocket, G4400 w/ 4GB RAM, 12 TB HD, Windows 10 Pro, AppleTV

hear hear, Martin has done wonders to interface these to NPVR, used seamlessly for years. I even bought a spare PCH in case the old one conks out which it hasn't yet ....

Can a raspberrypi/XBMC stream live TV? Or just recordings? That for sure interests me.

raspberry pi can do live tv will just need the mpeg2 license (2.4 pounds) though.

however my pis cant seem to handle HD channels only SD channels, it doesnt like the ts container, if you later convert your recordings to another container (ie no rencoding) they play fine, I do believe someone is working on fixing this issue (in fact it may already be fixed, havent tested a HD channel in weeks)

xbmc also currently has slow channel changes, sub may fix this in the future, theres a couple of options to fix it (best option is the most work however and requires changes in xbmc itself)
