Audio Issues when watching tv

Hello,

I'm having some problems with audio when watching tv. What is strange is on some channels there is sounds, but then on others there is no sound.
Can anyone please help.

Do you have both mpeg1 and ac3 audio decoders specified?

Just MPEG1 Audio is specified as Microsoft DTV-DVD Audio Decoder. AC3 Audio: is disabled.

What I dont understand is, for other channels, there is audio, why is these 2 channels different?

because some channels use different audio formats; those 2 probably use AC3. Some channels probably send both audio formats, with the AC3 stream being higher quality. Install AC3Filter from http://ac3filter.net

Installing AC3Filter also solved my lack of audio when watching unencrypted digital cable channels in the US via QAM tuner. I had earlier installed the PreferAC3 patch, which didn't solve the problem by itself. My complaint is that NPVR had detected several decoder options on my computer (Settings/Decoders/AC3) which apparently either don't support AC3 or else don't work with NPVR. Perhaps that could be improved.

It just lists all the decoders that report they're capable of AC3. It has no way to know if they'll really work or not. Most will work fine. Unfortunately some decoders are quirky and don't behave the same way as other decoder, or they'll intentionally knobbled to only work in some apps.
