Hi,

I've been testing nextPVR as a backend for XBMC and it seems to have a great potential; mainly because apparently it's the first app I've seen that takes in account the LCN sent by the cable provider!

I'm in France, and I had to create my own cable tuning file as the provided ones weren't accurate (half the frequencies are ending with 125K, the other half with 325K).
Anyways, it worked fine the first time, and it even got the correct channel numbers, which is a first for me.

Sadly, some channels weren't checked in the list after the scan completed, and I didn't really understand how it was supposed to work on the first try, so I ended up deleting all channels and started a new scan over.
This time, I ended up with multiple frequencies showing up on the same channel slots; for example I have two channels at LCN 1 to 15, sometimes even three or four on the same channel number. And I can't figure out why it does this now, or didn't do it earlier.

Furthermore, the original problem also has me puzzled; When scanned, some channels aren't "checked". They are marked as encrypted, which I assume means that I don't have rights to watch. Except that for most of those I do. Some channels were not marked as encrypted and yet I don't have the rights on those.

Is there something I can do to help fix this?

NextPVR defaults to only ticking the unencrypted channels, and an leaving the encrypted channels unticked (since you generally cant watch these). If you're able to watch encrypted channels (ie, using multidec or supported tuner with CI), then you can right click and choose 'select all' from the context menu.

I see. So on my end it seems that most of the channels nextPVR scanned are seen as unencrypted when they are indeed encrypted. There's not rights check using the CI while scanning I guess?

This can happen if your cable company hasn't marked the channels as being encrypted (in the Service Descriptor Table). Usually cable companies mark them correctly, but we've seen the occasional company that have left them marked as 'in the clear' even though they're encrypted. If the app knows that is wrong for some channels, like it has seen encrypted video packets for that channel, then it some channels may be marked as encrypted even if the cable didn't say it - due to timing it may not have seen video packets for all channels though, so some channels may still say they're unencrypted.

This isn't a big deal though. This flag is only used as a guide for whether they app auto ticks these channels. There is nothing to stop you enabling all channels.

Correct. The app doesn't know anything about what channels you can potentially decrypt.

Alright, so that leaves me with the matter of multiple channels being assigned to the same LCN.
I'm positive that at least on one occasion, a full scan lead to proper numbering of channels (at least, I didn't get any collisions. I haven't actually checked the 300 channels to see that they matched the current numbering scheme of my provider).

But now I'm always getting collisions. At least in the 4 scans I did tonight. Is there something I can do to prevent that?

Do a scan then zip and attach the npvr.log and I'll take a look.

Here are the logs. I've attached a first scan, where I removed the npvr.db3 before scanning (so first scan configuration), and another scan where I just removed all channels from nextPVR, and rescanned everything.
Of course, I couldn't repro the exact same channel collisions I experienced yesterday, but in both cases I still have channels on the same LCN.

Tell me if you need more. Here's also what should be the actual channel order: http://www.numericable.fr/pdf/chainesdec...erique.pdf

Thank you so much for taking a look into this!

It can see some duplicates in there, but it's not clear to me why, and how the cable boxes normally resolve it. Unfortunately there is so much info in the logs that its 'hard to see the forest for the trees' as they say.
