Sorry to ask what may be an idiot question BUT ....

I use NPVR with Popcorn Hour NMTs with Martin's excellent package for the PCH NMT
If I want to move to XMBC running on Raspberry Pi's would I go to the plugin or X-NEWA?
I am not looking for any more functionality than I get from Popcorn Hour NMTs

I read Martin's sticky post about this several times, I think I need X-NEWA but remain quite confused
Please help

nothing stops you from having both. X-Newa allows you to use the archive function that you cant use in the XBMC plugin but besides that, i think they can both do the same thing.
Server:WHS 2011

Mediasonic HF2-SU2S2 Pro Box 4 Bay (esata)
Pooling: Stablebit Drivepool (10TB)(various drive sizes)

The RPi is not really a step up from the NMT, so first you have to decide if you really want to move away from the NextPVR UI and libraries to XBMC's. x-newa was never meant to replace sub's plugin, it is kind of an intermediate step as xbmc pvr in general matures. If you do most of your scheduling via a NextPVR PC client, an NMT or NEWA the general addon might be sufficient.

The key other area where x-newa appears better

- comskip support
- multi client resume
- better recording-in progress playback

Thanks for this

X-NEWA looks like the answer. Looks more familiar for the other users, and like the WOL feature too

I installed both. NPVR-plugin worked fine, after I enabled Live TV on the Raspbmc. X-NEWA however just gives back the 'cannot access NEWA data' message. Don't think it is the NPVR server, as NEWA works fine from a windows PC.

Not sure if X-NEWA needs the NPVR plugin enabled to work. I tried it with and without the NPVR plugin enabled and with and without Live Tv enabled, all with the same result. I am not using any user names or passwords on NEWA or X-NEWA

When RaspBMC starts up it seems to load the TVguide from the NPVR server (if Live TV is enabled), so I think it may be talking to the server, but X-NEWA doesn't seem to see the server. Could one of you experts tell me (1) whether I shoiuld enable Live TV and the NPVR plug-in in order to use X-NEWA(2) where the log files for X-NEWA would be (and any other relevant files), and where the X-NEWA plug in should be installed. I have it in Programs, but I wonder if it should installed as one of the PVRs?

x-newa is automatically installed in Programs when you install from zip and the the log is xbmc.log as I explained in the sticky. My first thought is you didn't install NEWA 1.31 which is required now.

You don't need any PVR addon to be running in fact it works with the old version of XBMC.

Thanks, Martin
Vesion 1.31 works fine
I updated NPVR but its a bit of anelephant trap that the latest NPVR doesn't havethelatest NEWA - a warning inthe sticky wouldbe good

Point taken, X-NEWA and NEWA Web Services are so tightly linked and I forget that this is not clear.

Nothing yet, but then I just got home from work, so please give me time. I will be updating and revising the sticky as suggested.
