Okay, so I'm building a new system to replace our cable company DVR, so I've started using NPVR to record some of my daughter's shows, and wonder how IGL decides to use "daily rules" on programs. She has me record the Ellen Degeneres show, TMZ, and American Idol. IGL is unable to rename Ellen or TMZ, citing "no episode data", and when it renamed American Idol, it did so, "Using daily renaming rules".

So, wondering how this gets done. IGL logs attached.

Thanks.

The xml file downloaded from tvdb.com will indicate if it is daily or not <Airs_DayOfWeek>Daily</Airs_DayOfWeek>. You can also indicate a file is daily in the SearchLite.xml file somewhere here I documented how.

I don't know anything about "daily rules" but in my experience, IGL won't rename files if there is no subtitle data corresponding to that particular episode. Much of the time, Tribune Media sends out empty episode data for brand new premieres. In those cases I ended up running IGL manually from the Winders shell after updating the database with episode data. For more info on that see here, especially the section about scheduled_recording.oid.

As an example how to force a daily show

Code:
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<settings>
    <PluginSettings>
        <SearchLite>
            <UseUniqueID>true</UseUniqueID>
            <Offline>false</Offline>
            <!--Language>no</Language-->
            <Themes>true</Themes>
        </SearchLite>
        <CustomNames>
            <Name uid="00599270" Format="D" >The Ellen DeGeneres Show</Name>
        </CustomNames>
  </PluginSettings>
</settings>

The uid is the zap2it ID minus the EP or SH at the beginning and the 4 digit episode count at the end. It is in the epg data and also part of the url at zap2it.com http://tvlistings.zap2it.com/tv/the-elle...EP00599270

Hmm, assuming the xml file you are talking about it the one in SearchLite\Series, it does have the <Airs_DayOfWeek>Daily</Airs_DayOfWeek> entry in it for Ellen. I'll try adding the info to SearchLite.xml like you said and see if that works.

As for TMZ, it appears a skip file was created, probably because thetvdb.com lists it under "TMZ on TV". Will removing the skip file and adding the info to SearchLite.xml fix that? If so, do I put the name as "TMZ" or "TMZ on TV"?

Thanks for the help.

For TMZ, I'm not sure if the "D" mode works for files not on the tvdb but changing the name too might make better matches.

I'll set up a test for Ellen, in theory it should have worked, but the log didn't show it find that markup.

Ah, I see now. Looking closely, I see I was running 1.2.0.26229, while yours has 1.2.0.42580. When I installed the new one, Ellen worked correctly. Don't know when this version came out, I guess in the last week or two since I had downloaded it new for my new HTPC setup.

I tried it out with the searchlite.xml entries, and TMZ said "Using daily rename format", but still didn't do a rename. The subtitle is blank, so will it not rename in that situation? Or is it the whole "TMZ" vs. "TMZ on TV" thing?

I'd be okay with just the date part of the daily format, it just looks better than the long time-date that is the default for NPVR.

Thanks.

You might need "TMZ on TV" I don't think the subtitle/desc is mandatory for daily format.

Well, I've attached 3 logs here. The ".2" log is with the searchlite.xml entry, using the name "TMZ". The ".1" log is with the name "TMZ on TV". And just for fun, I went back to try your newest version without the searchlite.xml entry, that is the plain ".log" file. Still didn't work, and a skip file was created.

Not that thetvdb.com has much information on the show - no episodes listed for 2012, only 3 for 2013. Zap2it has listings for all the episodes, but absolutely no information. Might not be worth messing with.

Thanks again.
