First time user of NextPVR as a backend for XBMC. I have been moving along swimmingly getting everything set up until hitting a brick wall getting channel numbers to display correctly in the EPG. I am using an HDHomerun Dual for OTA signals in Atlanta and Schedules Direct for EPG. Everything seems to have set up properly as I am getting accurate info in my EPG. The issue is that channel numbers are displayed in the EPG by the general number given to the station by order of detection during the digital channel scan and not by OTA channel number (2.1, 2.2, 5.1, 11.1, 11.2, etc.) even though each channel was manually mapped (couldn't get bulk mapping to work).

What am I doing wrong that is not allowing each channel to be displayed by its OTA channel number in the EPG, instead displaying it by its general number?

You can change the channel numbers in Settings->Channels (then pick a channel and select Details). However only integers are supported; you can't use 2.1, etc.

Also, in xbmc there's a setting in the pvr settings to use the channel numbers from the PVR backend. It defaults to just numbering them 1,2,3,4, etc.

Thanks! So, just to make sure I understand you correctly, when receiving OTA channels that have sub-channels, there is no way for me to list them by virtual channel number (2.1, 2.2, etc.) in the NextPVR EPG or the XBMC EPG? That's a bummer.

Correct. Neither XBMC or NextPVR support using channel numbers with major/minor numbers. This is a North American-ism, not used in the rest of the world. You have to give these channel number a regular number. Some people come up with schemes like taking out the dot, like 21, 22 etc, or 201, 202 etc.

Honestly the whole channel.subchannel thing is silly (though I understand why they wanted it), and once you set up your system without them I think you'll see they just aren't needed. Come up with a channel order that makes sense for you. Do you want the first page of your EPG to show the major channels you watch, or do you want it to be half full of odd subchannels?

It's not silly when you comes from WMC or the HDHR software and are used to them. However I opened a wishlist item for this a while back and have decided I prefer mapping them the the cable number because that is how they are listed in the newspaper TV guide.

mvallevand, I agree the subchannels are nice to have. what I did was add 100, 200, 300 to the .2, .3 and .4 subchannels in the guide. This way, 23.1 23.2 23.3 is listed as 23, 123, 223. This way, the 'main' channels are listed together and the subchannels show up at the end of the guide, and all are accessible with a remote.
