Would it not be a matter of browsing to NEWA (or more probably iNEWA) using a supported device like an android tablet or phone, then launching the desired video? The video would have to be in a format the chromecast would understand.

Or am I missing something? I don't have a chromecast, but that seems to be how it works from what I've read.

Looking into the SDK stuff now (still beta).... it appears the interface to Chromecast needs to be running on the android platform....but not positive yet....but it looks that way.

the site says they also support iOS and the Chrome browser running on Windows or Mac. Obviously Android and Chrome are under Google's control, so they can just update those platforms to add the casting function (in almost all cases I saw in the demo video, the "Cast" button was clearly on the browser toolbar). Not sure how they do it with iOS, probably something you get from the app store.

actually it occurs to me that if he wanted to, sub could build the casting functionality into NextPVR, or maybe someone could do it as a plugin. You could use the NextPVR client on the main TV or laptop, whatever, select a show as normal but then hit a button to "cast" it to Chromecast instead of playing it locally. Not sure how you'd handle pausing and skipping in that scenario though, especially if where you're casting to is an a different room.

I think for the way I'd use Chromecast here, casting from NEWA/iNEWA or nDroid using an android device would be ideal; the device would be the remote control for pausing, etc.

I think this is exactly how Chromecast is meant to be used.....

nDroid may be the perfect target to have this added to it.....

My two cents is that Chromecast is great for streaming content you want to share or for apps that have better Android front-ends then TV clients. I knows I still want the more powerful NextPVR client and all the enhancements to DirectShow for seeking, comskip, resume, subtitles, PIP, Timing.Info etc. What is missing is an alternate remote for Android/iPhone to make navigation better. I didn't get much buy-in from devs to work out a framework to this, but for know XBMC is working ok, but it would be better in NextPVR.
