I am at my wits' end with the second tuner on a pvr-500 under NPVR. I have two cards installed (same thing happens with only one card) in a newly-purchased A75F2-A2 mobo. The intent is to use NPVR to serve Raspberry Pies that the kids will use as their front ends, and this is why I pulled out these cards from "storage."

In GBPVR we had the option for the first tuner and the second tuner with FM--but not so under NPVR. I have installed SoftPVR (WinTV 2.8a), all of the requisite s/w according to the wiki, and the latest drivers available from Hauppauge. But I can get only one of the tuners on each of the cards to scan successfully for channels. (Devices 1 and 3 do not find channels, while devices 2 and 4 do. Devices 1 and 2 are one cards tuners, while 2 and 4 are the other card's.)

Could there be something obvious I've missed in setting up these oldies but goodies?

thanks,
greg

I never got around to trying my 500's in NextPVR but with GB-PVR mine always ended up as device 1 & 3 being one card & device 2 & 4 being the other card (this was after I put both cards in the PC prior it was device 1 & 2 with just the one card)

sorry, I forgot to attach logs.

I just powered the system back up and re-scanned each tuner individually. A bit of random luck: tuners 1 & 3 found 33 channels, while tuners 2 and 4 found 65 and 66 channels, respectively.

System: A75F2-A2, 2GB RAM, A4-5300, SanDisk 32GB SSD &320GB SATA HDD.

Was there no NRecord.log at all? Probably some prerequisite software is lacking: http://www.nextpvr.com/nwiki/pmwiki.php?...requisites

2013-10-06 20:51:03.906 [ERROR][1] Unexpected error calling ReloadSettings(): System.Net.Sockets.SocketException: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it...

The soon-to-be-released new version of NextPVR will use Microsoft .NET 4.0, but 2.0 is still required for version 2.6.2.

I had to stop nrecorder in order to delete the overgrown logs, and forgot to restart it prior to the channel scanning. The Nrecord log file is pretty minimal. I just rebooted the machine and produced these clean set of logs: capture devices 1 and 3 still recognize only a few channels. while 2 and 4 tune into 64 and 65, respectively.

Yes, I installed the s/w as per the wiki; however, the c++ libraries could not be installed since the windows update installed the latest rev. I had a heck of a time installing XP on this new mobo (it did not want to recognize the Product Activation Key over the course of numerous slipstreamed installation media attempts), and hate the idea that the absence of the 2008(?) c++ runtimes would be the cause of my woes (as in "contemplate on the tree of").

as always, thanks in advance.

Well no more socket error, so that was only recording service not running. Channels 2-158 are being scanned for every device. (Tuners are reportedly 125-channel, analog cable channels are typically below 100.) However there appears to be a considerable difference in the amount of time taken for scanning various devices. Might be a hardware issue (too many splitters, failing tuners). As for software:

Did you install dvbfix? http://forum.team-mediaportal.com/thread...s-xp.6344/

Searching the forum for dvbfix will turn up numerous old threads involving issues faced by XP systems with multiple tuners that were solved by this fix.

Have you tried live TV or recording yet? At the moment it seems that there might be issues relating to the latest WinTV 2.8a, particularly where audio is concerned.
[Edit] Well sub posted in another thread that the SoftPVR components haven't changed. However the batch file on the Wiki was modified August 30.

Zeb,

Yes, i had installed the dvbfix but i have not yet tried recording. I did do one thing though: I took the two cards out and put them into another machine which currently has a working pvr-500 in it (one pci slot). Each of these worked in that one. Thinking that perhaps two cards in one machine is the issue, I booted the FM2 mobo up with only one card installed, scanned the two tuners, and only one tuner worked completely.

Perplexing.

I gave up on XP because of problems with dvbfix. It cured my recording problem using multiple tuners but when it was installed NextPVR would no longer scan for channels correctly. I ran it for a while with dvbfix installed for normal use and uninstalled the fix when I wanted to do a scan. I gave up after a while and used Vista instead.

Yes some of the old dvbfix threads seem to bear out what jcjeffries says, although they all seem to involve scanning for digital channels. One thing that might be worth trying is increasing <ScanCollectionMS> in Config.xml before scanning the troublesome tuners again. The default is 5000 milliseconds. However according to one thread, 6000 wasn't helpful and 7000 caused a crash. That was ATSC tuning and version 2.5.9: http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...post453414

Unlike digital channels, I think it's still possible to add analog channels manually. (Someone please correct me if I'm wrong: My cable is all-digital and the Wiki page hasn't been revised since January 2012).
