Maybe there's something I'm doing wrong. I've upgraded to v.91, and I'm really excited that it will play DivX movies, etc. I've encoded a couple of movies to DivX (well, actually Xvid), but when I go to play them over the MVP, instead of the movie being in the middle of the screen (i.e. a letterbox movie on a 4:3 TV) where they should be, they display at the very top, with one very large black bar at the bottom of the screen. When I originally encoded the movies from DVD to MPEG2 I used DVDx and had it letterbox them (i.e. they are all 640x480 now) so they would display correctly since most of them are 16:9 anamorphic. If I use the Hauppauge software with the MVP, they display correctly. They display correctly on my computer as well. They just don't display correctly when I use them with GBPVR. Any explanations? I know that this is the first version that can handle AVIs and I expect there to be issues, but I just want to know if there is any way around them. By the way, I've also installed FFDShow (although I'm not sure if that plays into Sub's use of Hauppauge files for on-the-fly transcoding or not). Also, the same thing happens to movies that I've encoded to DivX directly from VOB files, but not to normal AVIs (i.e. not DivX of Xvid encoded AVIs). Thanks for your help.

I think it has something to do with pal vs ntsc? See if there are params in the encoding program.

I can't get this to work either. Has someone been able to play AVI files with the new GBPVR release on your MVP? If so, can you describe your configuration and what special steps, if any, you had to follow to make it work?

Thanks

Mine works.

However, the letterboxed picture is at the top of the screen.

According to SUB, you need to have the Hauppauge MVP software installed, but not running, in order to transcode your avi.

This is how I have it "working."

Are you able to fastforward or skip in the avi?

I have the same problem with AVI playing at the top of the screen with a large black bar at the bottom. I also have been unable to playback an AVI without audio syncing problems. My PC has 2.6GHz processor and 512MB of memory so it should be fast enough to transcode on the fly. Any thoughts appreciated.

I ffdshow installed as my divx decoder. I setup ffdshow to resize video that is less 720x480 to 720x480, and that got rid of the black bar.

I dont have any sync problems.

I'm also having trouble with avi / divx playback through the MediaMVP (through the server, it plays just fine) for two videos I have.

For the first, I get the upper-half-video issue mentioned earlier (the lower half of the monitor is black). I've tried implementing santa's suggestion, without success.

For the second, a similar issue, but the video only plays for the first 2 or 3 seconds, then 'dies'. I'm brought back to the video menu.

Ideas?

So here's something new. I haven't been completely sure about this because it has worked for so long, but I never allowed the small window that says "GBPVR MVP Server" to stay open- I always assumed that the MVP server was a service, and even though the window said it needed to stay open that it really didn't (yeah, I'm dumb and don't always take things at face value). The thing is, the MVP would generally work fine without that little window open. Anyway, the other day, as I was trying to figure out how to the the AVIs to display correctly, I decided to let the MVP Server window stay open, and *voila* the picure was in the center of the screen. So then, I decided to try to change some settings for sound, because for some reason, when I play an Xvid encoded AVI on the MVP, the sound lags behind the picture about 30 seconds or so (the movies play fine on the computer). So, to try to fix that, I started changing some settings in FFDShow, and I went back and looked, and the picture was at the top of the screen again. There must be something happening with the on-the-fly transcoding that is causing the audio problems and putting the picture at the top of the screen. If I figure anything else out, I'll post it. If anyone has any ideas, or settings that seem to work better, please post. Thanks.

I have no say where the MVP will position the video, but if you have FFDShow resize it to 480 or 240 lines (or 576/288 for PAL), then it'll fill the screen.

I dont know why you're having the audio lag problem.
