Hi, I'm a newb, just joined to get help with this...

I have used nextpvr succesfully on a couple of previous builds, with xbmc. Right now, I've just set up a "new" machine, Win XP, xbmc, and I just loaded a pair of AverMedia A16C-D cards that worked fine in another machine. After a bit of faffing about, I got the drivers installed - 3.6.0.7. and according to device manager all is ok. (Though: under properties they are only shown as Avermedia audio capture devices).

Anyway, downloaded new version of npvr, and that went ok and so did the net frame 4 thing, that shows as installed.

The problem is, scanning in npvr finds nothing, though both devices are listed. I'm not at all sure it's npvr's fault as this is a new system build... can anyone throw any light?

BTW - I did try the thing about disabling firewal, no difference.

Thanks,
whurlston

Zip and post your logs folder after performing a scan. Also, make sure you have your video/audio decoders configured.

Sorry, I've no idea how to find the logs folder - I had a look with explorer to see if there was anything in the program files, and also had a look within the app itself - if you could tell me how to find the log, I will attempt to zip and post it!

In the meantime, I installed XP codec pack and have a few options on my decoders now - currently I set them all to ffd slideshow.

There is a sticky thread that has information about the log locations for Vista and higher, and for XP.

There is no sign of any obvious problem in there. It did mange to get a signal lock on two frequencies, but with low signal strength, so I suspect it never sent any data to NextPVR. ie, looks like poor signal to me.

I'm guessing the devices also wont work with the AverMedia software that came with the devices.

Thanks, I haven't got any software with the devices, I tried downloading a couple different drivers, in the end with the confusing way that xp installs things, I somehow managed to get them both showing as correctly installed with drivers 3.6.0.7. The aerial is the same as I always use, the tv is working ok and the leads for the media centre uhf's come from the antenna booster, as normal - I had it working like this with other set ups. And I know the tuner cards worked, in the last machine I installed in. They say Sony on them, and came out of a Vaio VGX-XL100, so I don't know if there's any issue there, but they are not I believe, made exclusively for Siny, they are just Avermedia AC16C's.

Oh well, I guess if there are no more ideas I will have to get different tuners or try a different back end maybe Sad
Maybe I could contact Avermedia...
Thanks,

I found the problem... and it was the most stupid thing you could imagine - one of the two earial leads was out, and it just so happened to be the one on the first tuner, which was the tuner I kept trying... though I'm sure I did try the second one, but I think before I had the drivers sorted.

What a plum:eek:

But thank you for your help!

Now to go and watch some tv!

Great - I did say it looked like signal issue. Glad you got it going.

Since you're running XP and plan to use two tuners, I wonder if you installed dvbfix? Unfortunately it was known to cause scanning problems, but is needed on XP systems with two or more tuners to avoid crashes.

The ffdshow decoders need to be configured. On Settings->Decoders, just to the right of the dropdown lists are buttons [...] to access decoder properties. NextPVR needs to be added to ffdshow's whitelist (if your version has one) and you need to enable MPEG 2 libavcodec. I don't know how to set their audio decoder for MPEG 1, but you certainly need that format for DVB-T.
