Hi all,

Last week in my town Charter switched to all digital, killing my QAM and Analog channels.

I switched to ATSC OTA channels because that's all I wanted to watch anyway and I'm not about to start paying $40 a month to get the channels I was already getting for free.

While reconfiguring I updated to the latest NextPVR version. Now, I can tune in the channels successfully with NextPVR and have the service mapped successfully through XBMC, but for some reason I cannot record. No quick recording or scheduled recordings work. I receive no error messages. I've attached what I think are the appropriate logs. I am no expert, they may contain something telling. Anyone got any ideas?

My card is an AVerMedia H826 Hybrid TV BDA Tuner

Some notes:

NextPVR allows me to watch another channel even though it acts like it's recording.
I checked to make sure my recording directory exists and the folder has full permissions.
System date and time matches npvr
I'm testing all of this directly in the npvr UI, I am aware of XBMCs current shortcomings with scheduling recordings

The database update didn't take during the upgrade, you may have copied in your old one. Run

NextPVR -updatedb

from the command line and restart the recording service

Where are you? I'm on Charter as well, but haven't heard anything about a digital switch. Did you get a "warning" from Charter before the switch? Did they offer a free box (of some sort) for a while?

Thanks.

I'm in Western NC. I don't recall receiving a warning but then again each piece of Charter mail goes directly into the trash can. I use them for internet service only, and was under the assumption I was getting local network QAM and Analog basic cable as part of my internet service. After the digital switch, I phoned to see what happened and they said I could get a free converter box at first, but then they saw that I wasn't a TV subscriber.

I believe TV subscribers can get a single free converter box (for 12 months) and pay for additional boxes.

I know there were long lines of unhappy customers waiting to receive the converter box the day of the switch here, so maybe they aren't doing that good of a job of letting people know... I do expect that they're doing this everywhere.. they were only required to carry the analog channels to 2012 I think.

If I were to start to consider paying for basic service, I wonder if my current tuner would be able to work with the new converter box? I've seen a few similar threads on here recently as other cable companies make the switch, but haven't studied them too closely.

Thanks. Should be interesting. I was hoping Charter would not be as aggressive at encrypting the clear QAM as the bigger guys. Sounds like no such luck.
