2.1.4 or NEWA Problem or something else?

Since upgrading to the new version (2.1.4) and the updated NEWA, I've been unable to play anything recorded from the All Recordings list.

Trying to do so says "Unable to Contact NPVR server!" when going into a directory that contains multiple items, or clicking and nothing happening with a single recording.

Playing items in the "What's New" list work fine, indeed the same items currently in there play fine, but NOT when I select them from the All Recordings area.

I attached my xbmc log to start. If you look toward the end of it you can see errors where I tried to play a couple of items.

Have you recently started using a utility that appends the to * to new shows?

I have my guide do that, in fact I always have - for many years. "Helix *" would be shown like that in the guide.

Edit: most everything we've recorded has been marked as new. The few things that don't have an * are watchable in All Recordings. Some shows marked as new with the * that predate X-NEWA/NEWA updates are still there and now fail where I know they worked once before.

Probably the new version don't account for some symbols in the names or the tools were built with/are using are more strict about it?

Yes it is the * causing the trouble but it isn't related to the new version, it was 1.5 that introduced this. I am getting UJB to look into something else in JSON NEWA and I'll post an update after that.

You helped me, I had forgotten to record Helix and I was able to catch it overnight.
