What it is worth I've had good luck with my Samsung 40" H5500 on a wired network, wireless works as it has both 2.4 and 5Ghz but 2.4Ghz wireless buffers to much for my liking much better using 5Ghz with HD Movies and recordings.

Only issue I've had been if the recording has no timeline (this issue is not a Samsung issues just recordings sometimes get a hosed up timeline) , example it starts with 0000 and ends with 0000 it will not play so I use a re-mux app to fixed this takes about 2 minutes to fix the timeline using this app, I save it back as a .TS file have not tried saving it with anything else as I'm only fixing my ts file anyway.

I used this app - support info below, you can download it from here- http://www.videohelp.com/tools/tsMuxeR/version-history

Network Optix tsMuxeR – the software utility to create TS and M2TS files for IP broadcasting as well as for viewing at hardware video players (i.e., Dune HD Ultra, Sony Playstation3, Samsung Smart TV and others).
Network Optix tsMuxeR is a freeware.
Supported incoming formats:
TS;
M2TS;
SIFF;
MOV;
MP4;
MKV;
Blu-ray;
Demux option.
Supported videocodecs:
H.264/MVC
Microsoft VC-1;
MPEG-2.
Supported audiocodecs:
AAC;
AC3 / E-AC3(DD+);
Dolby True HD (for streams with AC3 core only);
DTS/ DTS-HD;
LPCM.

Can anyone advise which current 32" TV would be pretty sure to work? I was leaning towards the LG's, but the current crop all seem to be WebOS. Does that work now? I'm very naïve about smart TV's as have never felt the need to buy one until now as have always had an NPVR client attached to do the smart bit.

No, WebOS LG is currently not supported.
If you can find a Netcast LG on sale it would be a good choice. Be aware of that the LG may not come with an ordinary remote, just the magic. You can use the app with just the magic remote but I prefer the real thing with all the right buttons. You should be able to get a button-remote for free if contacting LG though.

Any Samsung H-model would do the trick. I use a UE22H5615 for testing and it works quite well.
It's a little less reliable in seeking and just not as accurate as the LG but still a good buy. I wouldn't hesitate on buying a Samsung H-model for the bedroom.

Both LG and Samsung do videos, live TV and recordings, but none of them will seek very well playing in-progress recordings.

Thanks for the feedback, just installed a very nice Samsung UE32H6400. Just need to work out how to use it now. Is there a step by step anywhere to get your app installed Fred?

Actually, installing the app was easy, once I found the second page with the user apps on. First impressions are fantastic.

I just got the same blu-ray player to try it out but I have similar install failures (the install on my TV went fine). Do we need a custom app loader for this model player?

There is a new version of the Samsung app loader, now called Smart TV app loader but I have not advertised it much yet.
I will need to update post #1 soon.

These are the steps to install the app using the new tool:
  • Download and unzip https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/9995...loader.zip.

  • Run SmartTVApploader.exe on your Next PVR server/computer (you may need to run as administrator).

  • Use the tab NextPVRWeb to install the app to be served from the NextPVR inbuilt Web server (think NEWA) rather than installed locally on the TV set.
    Hit the green button for the latest stable version.

    If successful you should be able to navigate the NextPVR UI using an ordinary html5 enabled browser on address http://your-server-ip:8866/touch3/client3.html after entering the correct IP address in settings.

  • For Samsung
    Using the Samsung tab, choose to install the app “NextPVRWeb Launcher”. This is a small program that connects with the NextPVR app you installed in the previous step.
    (There is also an LG tab that will help install the “NextPVRWeb Launcher” onto a USB memory stick for use with LG Netcast TVs.)

  • For LG NetCast, WebOS Not supported
    Now use the LG tab in the tool to install the launcher app onto the USB memory stick you need to put into the TV.
    Don't forget that you also need to have an account and be logged in on the TV or you won't see the app from the USB stick.
    (Read TV's Electronic user guide - LG SMART Function/To Use LG Smart World)
    It may take some time (5 min or so) after you inserted the USB stick till the app shows, it has to do with LG doing some checks over the internet.

  • Start “NextPVRWeb Launcher” on the TV. Enter the IP address for your NextPVR server.

  • After a few seconds you should see the settings and options page.

  • Enter the IP address for your NextPVR server and choose to connect.

You are up and running!

- Enter zero three times (0 0 0) to get into settings again if needed.

Update to new version of the app when released is now made very simple:
  • Nothing to download, just start the SmartTVApploader.exe from before and hit the green button on NextPVRWeb tab to get and install the latest version.
    If you wish to install any other version, choose from list “available versions” and hit the gray button.

  • Power cycle your Smart TV device to make sure the app is reloaded.
Update Done!

Thanks. Unfortunately, I get a null reference exception when I try to run SmartTVApploader.exe even when I run it as an administrator.

- No idea what's wrong.
Any more info about the error?

try download this https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/9995...ploader.7z
It's the same binary but 7-zipped.

.Net 4.0 and an internet connection should be enough.

Not much. The stack trace just shows it occurs in Samsung1.Form1.Startserver(). I get the same result with the 7z file. I manually added an entry for it in Windows (8.1) Firewall because it never prompted me to let it through (I guess it didn't get that far) but still get the exception.

hmm, I have never run it on W8.1, just W7 and W8.

- Can you change compablity mode to W7 and try running it again?

- Were you able to start the old "samsung app loader" on this machine?

- Would it be possible for you to get me the stack trace?
