Currently if a tuner is in use in another program and npvr tries to use that tuner it records a 0 byte file. Could it instead realize the tuner is in use, not record a 0B file and look for a repeat of the program and record it?

WMC does this but it's not very reliable.

This is not what should be happening. NextPVR should recognise the conflict and should choose to record one show and make no attempt to record the second show.

Please recreate a conflict and post the logs so we can see what's going on. Thanks.

Sadly, drivers do not always report if a tuner is in use. Something like npvr will know if it is using a tuner, but not necessarily that WMC is using it.

If you get a zero byte file, then npvr will mark the recording as failed, "no errors but no data delivered"; the same show will be recorded again at the next showing AFTER the next EPG update. The key is that all recording scheduling is done during the EPG update process.

My mistake. I should have been more careful ... I missed the bit about the tuner being used by "another" program.

But why only after an EPG update does it reschedule? Repeats are often within a few hours of original air, sometimes only directly after. Is it even possible to run EPG updates every 30 minutes for 6+ hours a day? That's basically what would have to be done with the current system.

NextPVR expects to be the only PVR software on a 'puter and the only software that is using the TV tuners. I believe that pretty much all PVR software expects to be the only PVR software on any one machine.

Why do you need to use other software in addition to NextPVR? It may be that we can get you up and running to do everything using NextPVR and the conflict problem will cease to exist.

I can answer this one. Copy protection. Sad ANY channel that is flagged copy-once can not be watched/recorded via NPVR. Windows Media Center is the only program that I'm aware of that contains the Cable Labs DRM code to allow those channels to be tuned. Sad We have a few channels that force us to use WMC.

If WMC has a favorite tuner, that tuner could be given lower priority or even disabled in NextPVR.
