Hello,

I'm a newbee with NPVR. I'm trying to get live tv up and running but no go so far.
This is my setup:
Windows 8.1 pro, firewall disabled.
USB dongle RTL2832u, drivers auto installed by Windows when plugging in the dongle.
Installed the SAF codec pack.

-chanannel search ok
-tried several codec settings

I noticed that the file in c:/temp stays at 0 bytes. So it looks like that there is no information coming from the dongle.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Your best is probably to reproduce the problem, then zip and attach the c:\users\public\npvr\logs directory.

Thanks.

I've been reading many posts on this forum and this question was asked several times. How could I not think of this myself. :o
Sorry... I'll capture the log first. Smile

The logs look like the device isn't locking onto a signal:
Quote:2014-07-22 21:23:08.835 [DEBUG][14] locked=0, present=0, strength=0, quality=0 (took 0ms to check)
If you do a recording, to you end up with a file with data in it, or zero bytes long?

Hi,

Both the file in C:\TEMP for live TV and the file for recordings are zero bytes.

Assuming you've got a good signal, then unfortunately it's sounding like buggy drivers for this device. Maybe see if you can find a different version of the drivers that behaves better.

The signal should be ok. If I plug the coax directly into my TV it's working fine. The dongle itself should also be fine because it worked perfect for Software Defined Radio.
Looked at the drivers: the one installed is from 2009. When I search for an updated driver it says no newer drivers found.
When I remove the driver and let Windows search for new hardware, a 2014 version driver is installed.
Then after this, still black screen. Ad after rebboting the PC the driver has reverted back to the 2009 version.

Really confused here.

I have a spare RTL tuner also bought for an SDR application but was sure I had it working with NextPVR. On my server I replaced one of my USB tuners with the RTL tuner but even after a reboot failed to work giving zero byte recordings and failing to lock.

However I dug out my old server running NextPVR 3.1, deleted all devices and channels, installed RTL tuner, did a rescan, updated EPG and was able to watch live TV. The tuner is using a 2009 driver running on Vista.

So the tuner will work with NextPVR but I don't know why it wont work on my current server. I just noticed that you said that you were able to search for channels which must mean that the tuner is working.
