Hi,

I am building a new HTPC and was wondering if a new modern 5400 rpm hdd is fast enough or if I need hdds with 7200rpm?

The disk I am looking at is?

It need to handle multiple recordings also in HD. The provider I am using is DVB-S Canal Digital in Sweden.

I'd say more than fast enough. I have two 2TB 5400 drives and they cope just fine.

Probably semi-worth sticking the o/s itself on a smallish SSD if you can afford it though.

More than enough.
TBS6285 PCI-E DVB-T2/T/C Quad Tuner Card (This is a bad card, I have so many problems with it)
TBS6281 PCI-E DVB-T2/T/C Dual Tuner Card

I can record 3 HD streams from an HD HomeRun Prime network tuner, while viewing a recorded HD show from the same drive. The Recordings drive is a WD Green drive. I do have the OS installed on a smaller drive, so the green drive doesn't have to deal with Windows overhead. It just records and streams video via NPVR.

On a clear disk, you can seek forever...

Thanks, yes, OS will be on a SSD disk.

My TV & everything else are plugged into a UPS with surge protection. The TV stopped working. (It also killed a phone on the other side of the house.) I tried various things.
The OSD works fine. All the menus display. None of the inputs work (HDMI, Component, Composite). I hooked up an antenna & it seemed to work for the channels I tried via ATSC. I moved the other TV & all the devices work fine attached to it. So, I know it isn't the cables or devices.
