Newby - Hauppage 2250 cannot record 2 channels

I am a newby and have spent hours setting up the NextPVR. I have searched the forums, but cannot seem to solve my problem.
I have a hauppauge 2250 dual tuner. I have setup the tuners such that I have 2 QAM devices showing up on the device screen - each with the 5 channels that I am trying to watch. They say Type QAM and "Hauppauge WinTV-7164 BDA ATSC/QAM Tuner" and Type QAM "Hauppauge WinTV-7164 BDA ATSC/QAM Tuner"(#2) Present and Enabled with 5 channels.

I have setup the guide and can watch all 5 channels. However, if I record one channel and try to watch a different channel or try to record 2 channels at the same time I get an error saying that there is not a capture device available.

Hoping this is an easy fix!

When you went to scan on the second tuner, it showed a message saying something 'would you like to copy the channels from your other tuner'? You should have clicked yes.

I just tried to scan the tuner 2 and it said "unable to start device"

Have you seen the second tuner working in any software? ie, does picture-in-picture work in the Hauppauge WinTV software?

I am able to use the picture in picture on nextPVR. Currently I am recording one show and have another live show playing in PIP.

Sorry, unfortunately that's only using a single tuner, since NextPVR can do multiple channels simultaneously from a single tuner.

WinTV7 doesn't do that so PIP uses a tuner for each channel, and would allow you to check both tuners are working.

At this stage it's sounding like either something is already using your second tuner, or the second tuner is faulty.

Part of the problem seems to be the time lag between setting something to record then trying to watch another channel.
Is it normal for that to take several minutes to be able to start watching another channel after you start recording?

I do not have WinTV but was using windows media center prior to that. I was having the same issue in WMC...
Could the tuner be faulty even though NPVR detects it and it scanned and picked up the channels?

With a dual tuner device it's not unknown for one tuner to work fine and the other to be faulty. Try installing WinTV7 and doing the PIP test sub suggested.
