Hi All,

I have just set up nextpvr on my parents htpc (Intel NUC). However the live tv video quality is not great and is very choppy. What are the best decoders to use for this?

I have attached my current settings, using Cyberlink H.264/AVC

Quality was not an issue using XBMC but the lack of series link was not working for my parents (and a few other things.)

I would appreciate some pointers on this.

Thanks
Graham

There are many here that think that Cyberlink is as good as it gets. Many of us use SAF ... http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php...post414049

Send a forum private message to Hoborg to get the "unlocked" version. This should give you a more recent version of the drivers that you are using.

Meanwhile, does playback stutter if use LAV? What happens if you playback using Windows Media Player?

Thanks Graham,

I have tried recording a program and watching it back though npvr and it played ok, no choppiness, it was an SD channel. It's not finished recording yet, would that be why its not in my recorded tv folder for viewing through wmp. I don't seem to be able to stop the recording in npvr?

Does the codec change straight away or do I have to exit the program and reload?

You can stop an in-progress recording in NextPVR by going to Recordings --> Pending and "clicking" on the recording and selecting Cancel.

Recordings go straight to the Recordings folder. You might specify a recordings folder called "TV". When a recording of "News at Ten" starts, a folder called "News at Ten" should be created in the TV folder and .ts file should start growing in the "News at Ten" folder. So that I am sure tha I understand ... is it only Live TV that is choppy? Do recordings of the same channel play okay?

I always stop and start NextPVR if I change anything ... just to be sure. I reboot if I change anything to do with recording like, for example, the recordings folder ... just to be sure!

Chenging decoder and render takes effect at the next playback (or live tv), changing things that has to to with recordings requires a restart of the recording service. A reboot is rarely needed.

That's correct, I was watching 4 music and under live tv it was choppy (hung for half a second every 10 seconds).

I set the channel to record and left it 20 mins, went to my recordings and viewed it through npvr, playback was fine.

I have no idea why you are having a problem. Live TV writes the broadcast stream to a buffer on disk (so that you can pause and skip back). What happens if you watch Live TV ... press pause on the remote ... wait ten seconds ... press play on the remote.

Are you getting choppy live TV on every channel or just on 4 music and perhaps certain others?
