I just gave up on MediaPortal after it once again kept recording for 13 hours when it was supposed to record 30 minutes. (You can fill up a hard drive quick that way!) I have switched back to NextPVR, which I used to use on my old computer with an AverMedia TV card; it worked fairly well although I never could get the EPG auto-update feature to work properly.
I have a new computer (homebuilt around an Intel i7 processor and an ASUS Z-97 Pro motherboard) and a new TV card (Hauppage HVR-2250). I have also subscribed to Schedules Direct. NextPVR installed OK, but when I go to Device Setup and scan for channels it misses the local station broadcasting on physical channel 8 (KUHT-DT[1-4]). I've tried scanning four or five times with a few reboots thrown in for good measure, and it still doesn't pick up the channel. I know that the TV card is receiving it because when I go into the Hauppage WinTV program I can watch the channels with no difficulty and a good clear picture.
I'm willing to try hand-editing the channels XML file, but I can't find all the information that I need on the Schedules Direct web site. Does anyone have a good method of adding individual channels that the automatic scan misses? Also, is there any way to automatically map the channels to the Schedules Direct info? I've searched the documentation and I haven't yet found a way which works other than going through the channels and mapping them individually one by one...kind of tiresome when you have 105 broadcast channels....
