I was looking for a new tuner (at least a dual that is NOT Hauppauge or AverTV) and stumbled onto this new external tuner which sounds a lot like HdHomeRun but has 4 tuners. Does anyone have experience with the Tablo and know if it will work with NextPVR?

https://www.tablotv.com/tablo-products/t...r-4-tuner/

Side Note: I love my AverMedia 188 it tunes in all my OTA/ATSC channels without issue, but I can not have two of them on my system as it will drop one every time my computer goes to sleep and requires reboot and resetup. So I paired it with a Hauppauge 2250, but it has issues with some frequencies. It requires a signal booster for two of my OTA/ATSC channels to get any reception, but three other channels get corrupted when I have the booster connected. Can't really separate that out. So looking for other alternatives. I would prefer internal PCI but there does not seem to be any other alternatives so I am looking to try an external options, but really want good solid reliable performance with it. Any suggestions welcome.

Thanks.

From what I can see it requires a special interfacing from npvr's side (much like the T-We that I tested). Have you looked at the Digital Devices dual or quad pci-e tuners?

Couple of thoughts. Could you arrange the channels between the tuners such that each only receives the channels that work with it? Maybe that would give you enough simultaneous recording capability. I have had good success with an ATI Theater Pro 650 tuner; seems to work as well as the Avermedia A188. It's only a single tuner though. They go for about $30 on ebay, mostly Dell branded. The Dell version that I have works fine. If you have enough slots, you could get two! They have both PCI and PCIe versions, so that may help with the slot issue.

Is Digital Devices a brand? If not, what are you referring to? I have looked for all possible dual tuners. I have never seen a quad tuner for OTA other than the Tablo. Would love to have one as slots are limited.

Hi TVHelp,

Digital Devices is a German company. Here they are:

But it looks like they might only have DVB tuners, and not ATSC.

Thanks. Of course, no one seems to think manufacture / selling of ATSC tuners is worth it in the U.S. because they have been seduced by the cable companies. But I have cut the cord and am happy with my antenna, just need more tuners without having a pci slot for it. I will send them an email just in case to see what they have.

I may try the HDHomeRun as it appears to be well established with NPVR, even though it is only a dual tunerSad I was thinking I would go ahead and try the Tablo, but read that the EPG is a paid subscription, and, although I could still do manual recordings with it, I have gotten very use to my NPVR easy recording lifestyle and really want something that will work with itSmile

Tablo is like a Tivo with no display. You hook up an USB HD and it is self-contained; no computer required. You then watch TV/recordings via a Roku or tablet.

I use the HDHR3 and am very happy with it. I bought it on sale for $50 when the HDHR4 came out, so only $25 per tuner.

The nice thing about the HDHomeRun is that you can install as many tuners as you need, up to what your software will support. Since it is attached to your Ethernet and not inside a computer, you can watch live TV from any computer regardless of which computers are powered up (I have mine in the attic, about four feet from the antenna). That's independent from nPVR, which shares the tuners nicely with live TV.

I'm using the HDHR4 and it has worked well for me. I also have an older, single tuner Silicon Dust model and the newer unit brings in a much better picture.

When it comes to digital tuners, the quality of the picture will be identical, unless one has signal lock issues and causing data to be lost and the picture to break up.
